Donating money to NHS

I have seen a lot of charity posts on Facebook and stories on the news about people raising money for the NHS.

I don’t understand how this works though- the NHS is (under)funded through taxes.

The problems with lack of PPE is that it isn’t available and not that NHS can’t afford it.

I would happily donate money if it went to pay rises for NHS staff or to buy equipment but I don’t understand how or if this works?

Also - I would rather we all paid more taxes to support the NHS and properly fund it long term rather than donating now and then the NHS not being funded properly through taxes.

Please can anyone tell me what NHS donations at the moment are for, if they are helpful and needed and if they could cause more harm than good in the longer term.

I did pay an insurance policy for my aunt at £175,000 plus an additional £300 a week over and above over 4 years. Gran didn't lasted long enough to get six month of fully funded from a £100,000 house sale. Don't get me wrong, I couldn't have done what the care homes did so they deserved every penny but I would much rather stand outside with an envelope and give the cash to the staff. I would be more than happy to pay increased tax and NI for NHS absolutely. Care homes are cash rich businesses, they really are. They run on bottom line margins.and treat staff dismally..

Except many are closing. Why is that?

I really meant everyone should insure against old age or have taxation ring fenced to pay for care. Possibly for health too. I think people treat something with respect if they pay for it. So reduce general taxation and replace with ring fenced insurance/taxation and have a grown up debate about what the money can actually pay for. If you earn above a certain amount, to be negotiated, private health insurance should be required. We need to lessen the burden because paying more in usually doesn’t get better services.

the tablets to allow people to talk to dying relatives are being funded by charities. Those making scrubs and PPE do so for care homes as well as hospitals.

Some people with money look for any excuse not to help others, some with very little look to help where they can.
