Anyone doing any interesting courses while on lockdown?

I was meant to be going on a mental health first aid course this week and actually feel really disappointed I won't be attending Sad

Just wondering if anyone is doing any interesting courses online at the moment, feel like I need something to keep my brain active. And anything to plonk on my CV is always a plus.

If you're in England you can study a range of level 2 courses for free via The Skills Network.
They do a Level 2 Certificate in the Awareness of Mental Health Problems if that would be useful?

I work in a school, so have done quite a few Educare courses.

You could try this course that starts today: www.futurelearn.com/courses/managing-mental-health (it's free) and there are lots of other courses to choose from too.

I've been learning sign language over the Easter holidays and will try to keep on it when back to school tomorrow. Might even try to get some of our students doing it as well in their free time in the afternoon.

Is there a sign language course/website you would recommend? I know the alphabet but not much more!

LoveIsLovely · 13/04/2020 09:03

I have been learning how to do cryptic crosswords.

Surprisingly easy once you into it.

And I started a course about the history of Christianity on Coursera.

Oh my God, that would be so cool.
To learn how to do crosswords.
Then I would sit in an outdoor cafe with the Times ostentatiously open at the Crossword page and complete the whole thing inside of a couple of coffees.
I would love that Grin

LoveIsLovely · 13/04/2020 09:16

@kontikki it is far easier than I thought. I got a book (How to Solve Cryptic Crosswords) and started off doing the Times quick Cryptic one. I can do 80 to 90% of it in 30 minutes now. It only took about a week to learn.

No hope of doing the main Times one though.

I'm learning Sign Language. The British sign language website is offering the course at discounted price. I've wanted to do it for a long time. There's no rush with it and can work at my own pace.

I was sent a link the other day of loads of free open university short courses so might be something useful in there for someone!
