Shielding a toddler

I have a toddler who is shielding as he is TOF/OA - has had major surgery on his respiratory system. Does anyone else have a young child who is shielding?

I find there is a general attitude that those who are shielding / extremely vulnerable are all very sick / basically waiting to die. A friend frustrated with lockdown (as we all are) said that everyone who is dying was going to be passing away within a few years anyway. My toddler has a condition that in normal times would not have any impact on his lifespan and lives a full and healthy life. If you met him you would have no idea that he had an underlying condition but this virus is very dangerous for him.

If there is anyone else in a similar situation, how are you coping? I am worried about my parents and others in the family with health conditions, but the worry just seems of a different quality when it’s about your child.

No idea but I will bump your thread. What is TOF/OA ?

You're right that the worry is different when it's your child. especially a young child, but any age. My only earnest sympathy in the saga of Johnson having cv19 was for his parents. That could have been a terrible blow to them.

Your friend is an arsehole if she knows your toddler has to shield and still said that.

Early 40s here, shielded too. I have pointed out to people that when the news says 'has underlying conditions' that if I die that's what they would say about me. It has shocked a few people as they imagine that sentence to mean old people on their death beds. I am amazed at people's lack of awareness. Wishing you both all the best.

My 5 year old has a liver transplant and is shielding.
Some people don't seem to consider that the extremely vulnerable list includes children.

Yes - shielding a 4yo who has chronic lung disease from being premature.

We're basically trying to shield all of us.
