When will we get the REAL numbers?

The death toll currently only includes deaths in hospital. Not deaths in care homes or at home. When will those numbers be recorded, presuming post mortems will test for CV, or won’t they?

Don’t think we’ll ever know the real numbers.

Even if all the ‘known’ cases were included in the figures, it still wouldn’t reflect the real numbers.

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 11/04/2020 21:44

I would like to know the real numbers of who died with it and who died as a direct result but I fear we will never know that true number

Youngatheart00 · 11/04/2020 21:46

It’s a real tragedy and fraud. Makes me so angry that we will quote numbers which are so grossly inaccurate. As soon as the hospital deaths start to reduce there will be a lot of back slapping but no acknowledgement or effort to report the truth.

I think the only way is when the number of total deaths come out each month and we compare them with the same times on previous years.

Youngatheart00 · 11/04/2020 21:51

That’s good logic @alliwant

I’m concerned with the numbers being reported as daily total when in fact a good proportion of the deaths took place days or weeks before. That means our numbers will continue to climb for weeks yet.

The testing numbers are misleading as well. A friend had surgery last week (necessary) and was tested (quite rightly). She never had any thought that she may have it but it was a requirement on admission. She’s now included in the number of tests administered. Two friends who have been unwell for over a fortnight with COVID symptoms have not been tested, and never will as they are now recovering.

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 11/04/2020 21:56

My honest opinion is that the way things are being reported is an absolute shambles

safariboot · 11/04/2020 21:58

Never. There are mass deaths in care homes, people dying alone with no medical treatment, and they're not getting tested so they're not even counted as a statistic.

dementedpixie · 11/04/2020 22:02

In Scotland they are bringing out figures every wednesday that include deaths in the community

excitedmumtobe87 · 11/04/2020 22:03

The ONS update their figures weekly. Their figures are 70-80% higher than the weekly ones we’re getting. You can view the data here.

Youngatheart00 · 11/04/2020 22:03

@dementedpixie so they are testing in care homes as part of post mortems?

OP posts:
excitedmumtobe87 · 11/04/2020 22:04

Higher than the DAILY ones we are getting

Sorry

cologne4711 · 11/04/2020 22:20

Interesting they say some people have flu and covid and both given as cause of death. Wow, those people never had a chance did they?

PuzzledObserver · 11/04/2020 22:33

Even when someone had other conditions, you can’t be sure whether they would have died anyway if they hadn’t got Covid.

I don’t think we’ll get a full picture until we look back in two years. How many more people than normal die in 2020. And how many less than normal die in 2021. Because if the “they were going to die soon anyway” people appear in the figures for 2020, they won’t be around to die in 2021, so next year’s overall death rate could be below average.

That assumes we’ve got on top of Covid by then. Which might be optimistic, but you get the point.
