Anything we can do to stop the CV from leading to pneumonia/serious complications?

Just this.

It's likely we'll all get it at some point. It's unavoidable considering the vaccine is months, if not years away.

Obviously some of us may have already had it and we've been asymptomatic.

But if we haven't, is there anything we could do to stop the infection from developing into a full-on pneumonia? No one seems to be providing any advice, e.g. is there anything we can do at an early stage of the infection to improve our chances of avoiding getting seriously ill? This would be very useful advice.

Looking to hear particularly from medical professionals, although I appreciate you're all extremely busy now.

It's not as simple as just comparing death rates.

Some countries have a higher elderly population and people who live with chronic illness and disabilities. So deaths from Covid19 will be higher.

Countries with a lower life expectancy (younger population) will have less Covid deaths.

There are many other factors involved, including the "side effects" of lockdown such as increased deaths from heart disease, stroke etc because of reluctance to go to hospital.
It will be a long time before we can accurately know how well govts have managed the pandemic.

@slartibarti

Perhaps these 19 patients had normal/good level of vit D before they got sick and it was the infection that cause the deficiency.

Great question, but no. The first Philippines study checked the blood serum vit D3 levels were the same as a previous routine test months before infection

LWJ70 · 01/05/2020 09:18

For vit D please read the three world studies mentioned earlier.
Also carefully read this:

Some totally unscientific sweeping statements being made contradicting 20 years of scientific evidence.

LWJ70 Thanks, I need to look at the studies you linked to. Have just skimmed the last one you posted, very interesting, will have a good read later.

I guess not be ill or have preexisting conditions. Sadly that’s out of many people control so I guess they’ll just have to get pneumonia yes?

Bump

Vitamin d might prevent people having the serious preexisting health conditions...has no one examined the link? Vitamin d protects the immune system full stop. I dont think you can dispute that evidence. The shocker is that so many are unknowingly deficient and insufficient in northern latitudes, and nearer equator when population stays indoors (offices) and or are COVERED UP.

There was a young fit martial arts BAME case of covid on BBC this am, he survived, but the story was, he was young and fit. Yes, I wanted to scream, but he was indoors most of the time doing his exercise and prob vit d deficient after winter. Why isnt it being flagged up. It isnt this random effect of covid that the bbc makes it out to be, or PPE failings, or failure of people to stay at home. Covid affects some people worse. Why?
