Exit Strategy for U.K- When and How ?

So someone I know who knows someone in board of education had gov info for school to re-open in Jan 2021! No idea if this is a rumour or not but it's worrying, as to how we expect to have a solid Exit plan for the whole of the country... how and when do you think it may happen in your opinion?

People have to get it and live.
They track and will ascertain when sufficient people have had it.

That's the extent of the plan.

howmuchfood · 11/04/2020 19:19

Someone you know who knows someone.
Well I wouldn't be putting too much store in that.

Sennetti · 11/04/2020 19:21

I’ve heard 2021 too

But we can’t survive that long on lockdown so maybe that’s correct for schools but some places will reopen

Sennetti · 11/04/2020 19:22

How @PicsInRed if they aren’t even testing for it? How will they know when sufficient people have had it?

"Rumour: a currently circulating story or report of uncertain or doubtful truth."

So someone I know who knows someone... No idea if this is a rumour or not

Yep, sounds like a rumour.

I think the exit strategy is herd immunity and it always has been. They just aren't calling it that anymore.
When the antibody test is finally here we will all be tested and once the % of people with antibodies reaches the magic number we will all be released. Those without antibodies will get the vaccine. I'm sure it's not quite that simple ...

Unusualusernames · 11/04/2020 19:26

Personally I wouldn't trust this bunch of idiots to look after a gold fish so who knows?

PicsInRed · 11/04/2020 19:30

How@PicsInRedif they aren’t even testing for it? How will they know when sufficient people have had it?

There is reportedly health monitoring of representative populations (a bit like political polling certain areas to predict the whole) which is used to calculate infection at population level. I can't remember the details but the Deputy Medical Officer has spoken about it.

keepingbees · 11/04/2020 19:34

I would take that with a pinch of salt. They're saying schools will be one of the first things to re open and full lockdown won't be going on that long.
I'm taking it day by day, it's all speculation at the moment.

itsgettingweird · 11/04/2020 19:38

Except those in education also seem to think it'll happen end of June 2020 - for at least primary aged children anyway!

So I wouldn't go too much on hearing something from someone who heard something from someone else!

Rhianna1980 · 11/04/2020 20:03

Schools have only been closed for 1-2 weeks for private and state schools respectively. The amount of threads speculating on schools reopening here makes anyone think that we’ve been closed for months.
They will reopen them when NHS is coping with the number of patients. That’s all what needs to be said.
It’s unsettling times for all of us in this world especially for those who have lost someone.
My thoughts go to all families who lost a beloved partner, dad, mum, friend, child, and to the NHS workers who lost their lives to fight this disease.

PumpkinPie2016 · 11/04/2020 20:08

I really don't think anything has been fully decided yet. I teach secondary and although we know we won't be reopening after Easter, we don't know when we will. Schools have only been closed for two weeks of term time at the moment.

There does seem to be an odd obsession on Mumsnet with when the schools will reopen. These are hard times for everyone but at the moment, the priority should be lowering the number of cases of the virus and hopefully deaths.

Rhianna1980 · 11/04/2020 20:12

This is a very informative article from the bbc:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52183295

“Why can't we just lift lockdown?
We cannot simply return to normal after cases peak or even after they are reduced to very low levels.
The best estimate of the proportion of people infected (and potentially immune) in the UK is just 4%. Or to put that another way - more than 63 million are still vulnerable to the infection.
If we just lift the lockdown, then another explosive outbreak is inevitable.
The fundamentals of the virus have not changed either - one person infected will, without a lockdown, pass it onto three others on average.
Cutting those infections by 60-70% is what it takes to keep cases down. At the moment that means cutting our human contact by that amount.
If we lift social distancing measures then something else has to come in to suppress the virus instead or at least to prevent people ending up in intensive care.

Which lockdown measures could be lifted?

Some restrictions have less of an effect on the virus than others.
"There are certain interactions and activities that are overall less risky," said Dr Kucharski.
He argues lifting different restrictions can be put into three broad categories - those with low, moderate and substantial risk of increasing transmission of the virus.
Low risk includes exercising outdoors, which has been restricted in some countries.
Moderate would include letting some non-essential shops re-open or having occasional gatherings with people outside the household.
Substantial increases could come from lifting advice to work from home, reopening schools or isolating sick people and quarantining households.“

howmuchfood · 11/04/2020 20:15

@Rhianna1980 they've been closed for 3 weeks..

Scottishgirl85 · 11/04/2020 20:22

Nobody knows, but I highly doubt it will be that long. I suspect they will open in some sort of fashion in May/June, perhaps with half kids in morning, half in afternoon. The impact to education, mental health, economy (since parents are struggling to work) etc will be too great otherwise.

Rhianna1980 · 11/04/2020 20:32

@howmuchfood You can’t include Easter holidays.
Even if it’s 3 weeks, it’s still nothing compared to the 6week summer hol and the school closure is nothing to the big scheme of this mess of how we get control of this virus.
The virus, for now is here to stay. Even if they relax all restrictions tomorrow, that doesn’t mean the virus is magically going to vanish or become less lethal.

Schools will open when nhs is coping.
Please read the bbc link I posted too.
Here it is again if you missed it.
