Is this the end of cash?

So many places aren't accepting cash due to it being dirty or you can only use it in self checkout. Do you think that globally this could be the end of cash. Not having cash could also mean no more cash in hand or discounts for cash, so would help with governments needing more tax to recover from this crisis.

I don't mind, I hate when I have to find cash as I never use it. Everyone can at least get a very basic bank card these days

midnightstar66 · 11/04/2020 18:55

Also for children there are card accounts

Isn't that part of the upside that the builders, the dog groomer and the hairdresser would need to start to pay the sand amount of tax as everyone else.

Who doesn’t have one of those in this day and age?

My DC. My relative with learning difficulties. My great aunt. Two local companies I have dealt with this week.

In normal times I regularly visit two establishments without car payment facilities; cash only.

I assume in the case of a cashless society though people would adapt- it's not especially difficult

Randomschoolworker19 · 11/04/2020 21:27

"But what about ...."

There's always someone to pipe up with a reason why x small group of people would be affected and why it wouldn't work.

If we did become a cashless society then as I said before, you better make sure you've got a phone or card pretty sharpish then, haven't you...

Lovebb · 11/04/2020 21:28

Hope so I hate cash

MabelMoo23 · 11/04/2020 21:38

As someone else said, Sweden, completely cashless. Nowhere accepts cash. The only place I literally could use my cash was to pay my final hotel bill for extras such as room service etc.

Literally nowhere took cash, not even the taxi drivers.

Im sure in the event of cashless that, when implemented it would cover all the issues raised. We already have homeless people with contactless pads for instance. I do see why many self employed and cms dodgers might worry though.

Isn't new cash sort of plastic anyway plus just printed off a load of it can't see us going cashless just yet .

Easilyanxious · 11/04/2020 21:49

Printed off as in one of notes just changed recently can't remember which one
