Would you be willing to travel as soon as restrictions are lifted ? We are able to read arrange our holiday (big group booking) some people are fine to rearrange for ASAP others don't feel comfortable and wait to wait until next year! I'm really in two minds just wanted some opinions really Smile

My husband is busy booking trips for October and next January. He’s also pretty sure our July holiday to Turkey will still be going ahead Grin Grin

I’m happy to leave him in his own little bubble Grin

ChesterDraw · 11/04/2020 08:14

I think there will always be an element of worry in my mind now. We have a holiday booked for early July and if it goes ahead (unlikely) I'd be very concerned about going. I'd hope to wait a year and see what's going on next summer and what's happening with second peaks and so on

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/04/2020 08:27

I've moved everything that I had booked to next year. Earliest one is February, I'm hoping I'll be able to travel by then.

whiteroseredrose · 11/04/2020 08:28

If I can I'll rebook Iceland. I waited 30 years!

Goatymcgoaty · 11/04/2020 08:29

Travel insurers are not covering covid for either cancellation (refunds) or getting ill while you’re away. Would you take the chance? It won’t be covered until there’s a way that the insurers can pride the risk (vaccination or immunity certificate).

Goatymcgoaty · 11/04/2020 08:29

price not pride

brentwoodbaby · 11/04/2020 08:32

Yes, we have a big trip to Canada for July planned and if we can go we will do. We have had to adjust the plans a bit as had only booked flights before 13 March so any accommodation we book now will not be insured against cancellation which has ruled out a couple of places we'd looked at.

If we can't go in July it will be at least next summer before we can go again (school holidays and matching mine and DH's annual leave up) and I'm not sure we'd be able to afford it if prices go up post-COVID. I understand BA aren't issuing refunds just vouchers so we'll have £3000 tied up with an airline that we might not be able to use. Hmm

iVampire · 11/04/2020 08:33

I’m in the shield group,

I’d like to travel again, but my travel insurance was higher than ‘normal’ anyhow and I expect would be either stratospheric or unobtainable for quite a while (until global levels of infection have really ebbed) even with (potential future) vaccine

So no, I wouldn’t be signing up for anything involving international travel for the next couple of years. Which is a pity, but there’s plenty of UK once restrictions are lifted

Babdoc · 11/04/2020 08:33

I’d certainly advise against going to any country with less than UK standard healthcare any time soon, OP.
If you have already had Covid and are gambling on being immune, then your risk MAY be minimal - but you don’t know for sure.
I think this summer is probably best written off, other than for UK holidays once lockdown is released.
Our domestic tour industry will be desperate for your custom to get back on its feet - please help our own hoteliers, restaurants, tourist attractions.

Goatymcgoaty · 11/04/2020 08:35

@brentwoodbaby BA cancelled one of our August flights (the “return to uk” leg of the trip). They refunded us the full amount even though an alternative flight was offered.

AteAllTheAfterEights · 11/04/2020 08:36

@brentwoodbaby if your flight is cancelled BA will give you a refund, I just got one for our April trip. They are automatically offering vouchers through the website but if you DM on twitter or manage to get through on the phone you can get a refund.

BikeRunSki · 11/04/2020 08:37

@whiteroseredrose

Me too! We should have got back yesterday.

User202004 · 11/04/2020 08:38

We had Florida booked for next month, was planning for a year. I'm not rebooking that until all this blows over, not even 2021, I keep hearing we could be in and out of lockdown till we have a vaccine. So much planning gone to waste.

We have a European holiday booked for August 2021, if borders open and I feel safe summer holidays this year, I will rearrange to bring forward the holiday to this year last minute.

ShanghaiDiva · 11/04/2020 08:41

Restrictions need to be lifted in many other countries for travel abroad to be possible. China is further along the path of controlling the virus and has shut the border to foreigners (even those with residency) and other countries may follow the same pattern so I don’t see holidays abroad happening for a while.

MrsFezziwig · 11/04/2020 08:45

Have had a short break to Spain cancelled for June. We’ve rebooked to September as it only meant transferring a (tiny) deposit, so if we can’t go it won’t be an issue. Also I’ll have to wait until nearer the time to see how I feel about travelling, even if it is allowed.

dottiedodah · 11/04/2020 09:02

We had a big trip to Canada booked to see our friends there .However will be looking at early summer (May /June time next year)now .Bitterly disappointed (Was my Big Birthday in Sept this year ,when we had planned to go)However I would prefer to wait until this has settled down .Also expecting travel insurance /prices to rise as well!

tallrachel · 11/04/2020 09:13

Good luck getting travel insurance that covers you for Coronavirus. I can see people getting ill and setting up Gofund me pages left right and centre. Either that or demanding the UK government sends a jet over to bring them home. I dont object to flights starting, but the uk tax payer should not have to foot the bill for repatriation. Go out against goverment advice and you are on your own.

2beautifulbabs · 11/04/2020 09:36

We had originally booked to go to Disneyland Paris this May when we went into lockdown we were able to move it to November have been looking forward to this as it's our first holiday since four years and taking our DCs 3 year old and 1 year old.

We are still watching seeing how it pans out ideally we would like to still go and will do if we think it's safe to do so
