When Boris went into ICU

Do you think Boris was more poorly than what we were being told when he went into ICU? A lot of people seem to think his condition was being played down so as to stop the nation panicking?

Oxyjiz - Sadly too little too late. But yes let’s hope he appreciate the NHS after this and big changes are made to their working conditions and pay is increased. They so deserve it!!!

OP posts:
megletthesecond · 10/04/2020 16:35

As well as obviously not wanting him to die I was internally shitting myself at what effect it would have on children. It would have been impossible to shield them from it.

Oxyiz · 10/04/2020 16:36

Is it "questioning their integrity"? Hmm

I think we can all understand that the Prime Minister gets better attention than most, including his own private space.

Anyone who thinks that he gets the same treatment as Joe Bloggs off the streets is delusional.

eddiemairswife · 10/04/2020 16:36

I think we show panic by stockpiling toilet rolls.

LurksAscending · 10/04/2020 16:38

The markets would panic. The £ dropped in value after news of Boris's admittance.

vera99 · 10/04/2020 16:39

The 'panic' might be the British people might wake up and find they had voted the arch buffoon into power as the PM at a time of greatest national peril since WW2. But it's ok because it's just a dream except for those where it is a nightmare.

EggBaconBeans · 10/04/2020 16:41

Speculation won't change a thing- we will never know.

I love Boris and was absolutely gutted when I heard he was taken into ICU. I think he was very unwell.

Haters will always hate and that's the way of the world.

I am just thankful he's out of ICU and on the road to recovery. Thank goodness.

PicsInRed · 10/04/2020 16:43

St Thomas' have now released a statement which makes clear that Boris was, and is still, very unwell.

MilkNoSugars · 10/04/2020 16:45

BBC reporting just now that Boris is able to go for short walks with periods of rest in between as part of his recovery.

Pretty amazed he's up and walking about so soon after being in ICU?

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 10/04/2020 16:45

Yes. I still think he’s much iller than we are being told. I’m his most vocal critic, can’t stand the man, but I cried. I was convinced he was going to die. And that’s why they’ve played it down- it’s terrifying for us all.

Otherrooms · 10/04/2020 16:49

Pretty amazed he's up and walking about so soon after being in ICU?

Yep...me too.

Ontopofthesunset · 10/04/2020 16:50

Why is it terrifying? Why would people panic? I mean, we know lots of people are dying of this and we have all been locked down because of it, so while it is newsworthy that the prime minister is very ill and naturally everyone for human reasons wishes him a good recovery (just as we wish everyone a good recovery while knowing not everyone will recover) there are plenty of competent and indeed much more trustworthy people in government. It would be destabilising emotionally for the prime minister to die but it wouldn't actually change much surely.

Bluegrass · 10/04/2020 16:50

LurksAscending - Sterling had a soft start that day but came back off strong performance from the markets (FTSE100 was up about 3% when I checked on the Monday). Sterling closed higher against the euro than it opened. Any “big” negative sounding news brings a wobble as it is processed, but not a panic.

Egghead68 · 10/04/2020 16:53

St Thomas' have now released a statement which makes clear that Boris was, and is still, very unwell.

Where is this please? I can only find statements from number 10.

Easilyanxious · 10/04/2020 16:53

He's the current pm so would most likely get a private room in the hospital as security measures still would need to be in place etc . I think he was indeed pretty ill and was put there in case he needed intervention quickly and I would fully expect someone in his position would get slightly better / different treatment than joe public ( such as his own room ) but on saying that I believe our nhs staff do there best for every patient that they have regardless of status

Easilyanxious · 10/04/2020 16:55

As for up and walking around even after big ops etc they often get you walking around quite quickly as soon as they feel it's safe I'm sure he's following Drs orders and they will know what is best

tempester28 · 10/04/2020 16:57

Of course they played it down - he is the Prime Minister. It is not just the opinion of the British people that they have to consider.

However, thankfully, it looks like he is starting to recover and it is acknowledged that it will take some time for him to to that - so clearly he had significant symptoms.

Applejaxx · 10/04/2020 16:58

I can’t find a statement from St Thomas either?

justanotherneighinparadise · 10/04/2020 17:00

I love the comment about the British Public not feeling panicked and we were somehow better than that. He’ll somewhere out there there a billion pounds worth of stockpiled goods!!! We are prone to panic!!

BertNErnie · 10/04/2020 17:00

I 100% believe this.

I'm not hopeful we will whet get to know the truth either.

NaturalBornWoman · 10/04/2020 17:01

Yes. I still think he’s much iller than we are being told.

Why? Why do people keep doing this?

We’ve been told how he is throughout. It’s reasonable to think that a more precautionary approach would be taken give that he’s the PM and we are in the middle of a massive national crisis. The implications of him dying are significantly greater than if it were a member of the public, whilst acknowledging that every death is significant and sad. Why look for more?

vera99 · 10/04/2020 17:06

I feel sorry for old Bo-Jo now he will probably not be able to drink, have a cigar or fine rich food and have oodles of nookie on tap. Maybe he'll take his newfound misery out on us.

PicsInRed · 10/04/2020 17:09

Where is this please? I can only find statements from number 10.

That's the stmt just released about Boris taking short walks between periods of rest to aid his recovery. It was released by St Thomas' (obviously with patient consent).

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/04/2020 17:11

Yes, of course it was downplayed. He was at a point, where he either improved or got worse and probably at a point of needing a ventilator. Raab and Gove knew this.

People are going down so fast, according to an answer I found on reddit, icu is being considered before the point of needing such a high amount of oxygen.

I was also wondering if hospitals have combined itu and high dependency wards Some covid. Some clean. I do know some hospitals combine them as a matter of course depending on what type of hospital they are.

Egghead68 · 10/04/2020 17:18

There is a long history of Prime Ministers’ health problems being underplayed/reported (e.g. Churchill).
