I'll no doubt get flamed but sometimes you just don't know if something is acceptable or not. My front lawn desperately needs mowing. I don't have a lawn mower. I obviously can't go out and buy one now. My Dad wants to give me his. He lives near the supermarket where I do my essential shop. Would it be acceptable for me to run by his house next week when I do a shop, if I let him put the lawn mower in the car and stand well back on the street when he does so we are still socially distant?

I think it probably means necessary, as in a crumbling wall or fixing a leak

And getting your outside space useable. After all we are being told to stay home and if your outside space is comfortable to be in, well I class that as upkeep.

Tiredoutteacher2020 · 10/04/2020 16:04

It's not essentially part of the journey to the shop. You can tell yourself it is but it's not.

ViciousJackdaw · 10/04/2020 16:10

Ask Dad if there's anything he needs from the supermarket and collect the mower on the way back.

LastTrainEast · 10/04/2020 16:12

It is certainly allowed and in this case it looks like you can do it without putting him in too much extra danger if he washes his hands after touching your car.

picklemewalnuts · 10/04/2020 16:13

Local maintenance companies are keeping on top of grass. It's not something that can be left without maintenance without longer term problems.

BiggerBoat1 · 10/04/2020 16:13

Do it!

PhilCornwall1 · 10/04/2020 16:18

Apart from the phrase Social Distancing, the other phrase that's coming out of the whole coronavirus malarkey is NOT ESSENTIAL!!!

What is not essential to one person, may well be to someone else. Job done, I'd go and get it.

Hercwasonaroll · 10/04/2020 16:20

I'd get it.

Some level of common sense is required. Sadly some of the British public are lacking so decent people have to abide by strict rules.

Cuddling57 · 10/04/2020 16:20

Yes I'd do that, I think it's fine.
You're not going out of your way, your not making an extra journey and you are will keep your distance from your dad. Hopefully an added benefit of a distant quick face to face will boost both your mental and physical health.

EarlLeighIndamornin · 10/04/2020 16:23

It’s fine!

Mysocalledlifexx · 10/04/2020 16:27

Id say the same as most it would be fine.

Viviennemary · 10/04/2020 16:33

That sounds fine to me.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/04/2020 16:45

I’d do it.

Onesailwait · 10/04/2020 17:03

I think that is reasonable, he is heading to the shops anyway & there will be no physical contact.

cryinglightning · 10/04/2020 17:10

Yep that's absolutely fine Smile

Flaxmeadow · 10/04/2020 22:19

Usable or comfortable for what
A lawn tennis tournament? The national croquet semi finals?

ErrolTheDragon · 10/04/2020 23:07

I guess the few who think it's not 'essential' don't know anyone with bad hay fever. Letting grass get too long so it can make pollen can be miserable, and we really don't want extra sneezing at the moment. This may sound trivial but might not be.

Barbie222 · 11/04/2020 08:28

Our b and q is click and collect only just now so I'd do that.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/04/2020 08:49

Our b and q is click and collect only just now so I'd do that.

How is that materially different to getting her dad's?

Grobagsforever · 11/04/2020 08:53

Of course it's fine.
