Son is 4hrs away

My 15 year old is currently at his father's 4 hours from me. I usually have him home regularly but with lockdown felt safer to keep him in one place. However if lockdown extended for at least a few more weeks I think we should make a plan for him to be here. I know it is permitted for under 18s to go between separated parents homes, it's the 4hr distance that has been the issue. I didnt think reasonable to be doing that journey every other weekend. However now I'm thinking that assuming lockdown continuing than fine to meet his father half way to bring ds back home for a few weeks. Both households have been isolating for 3+ weeks no symptoms.
Sound reasonable?

What does your son want to do? If he would prefer to be with you then I would say that it is reasonable to meet half way and do the transfer. That's just me though and once he's back I would keep him with you for at least a few weeks. Would he be ok with that? At 15 he has a say.

It wasn't clear from your post, who is the resident parent?

I think it’s completely fine. It doesn’t matter who is the resident parent. Both have the right to see their child. Practically speaking it would give me pause if one of the houses had a key worker or anyone else interacting with other people regularly, but it doesn’t sound like the case. There is no law or guidance that would prevent you from making the 4-hr trip for this reason. I think the stories of cars getting stopped are massively exaggerated but even if you did you have a perfectly valid reason to be out and you are not endangering anyone by doing so. (Cue the MN police saying you are going to have a car accident and take resources from the NHS but that’s HIGHLY unlikely, esp with so little traffic on the road. And even if it did happen you would not be doing anything wrong, at all.)
