tried to get on the b&q site, a wait of 38 mins just to bloody look at gloss paint

Not that you can actually order any when you do get on!

HoffiCoffi13 - point in Italy and Spain is 'should not' be going out and 'will be' fined if your journey is deemed unnecessary - so your 'auto certification' needs to be reasonable. If it isn't, you will be fined.
Going shopping once a week is reasonable - no one is going to police what you buy if you do a reasonable shop as infrequently as you can.
Policing that is almost impossible and has led town mayors to take to the streets with the police telling people to go home.
No - the dog does not need to go out 6 times a day.
No - the dog does not need a 6 km run
No - your elderly relative does not need a packet of sweets
An impossible task to police - so Wuhan was in total lock down - that this government did not even start to do when it could have.

RibenaMonsoon · 09/04/2020 19:57

I might start buying embarrassing things with every essentials shop just in case.

I need to stock up on tampons anyway, DS flooded the bathroom last week and ruined my stash of pads.
Might switch it up with some lube one day. I'll buy a cucumber on the same shop.
The next week perhaps some viagra and a courgette.

Watch them rife through my bags with a really creepy smile on my face.

Dont worry it will be along with my essentials shop. Won't be making any unnecessary trips.

I can't imagine it will come to that. All news articles are so elaborated on and taken out of context or proportion these days. It's just click bait.

Lordfrontpaw · 09/04/2020 20:14

Vodka, condoms, anusol and a large aubergine.

That ought to do it.

Perhaps the learning from this sort of statement is not what some idiots in the police force think they can do, but to remember that given the power, what they might do. It doesn't take much to turn a democracy into a dictatorship.Just a police force willing to abandon policing by consent, neighbours willing to turn in their neighbours for perceived or real misdemeanours ... and you are half way to a place that we just keep on saying will never happen again, but does

THIS!

PPs moaning about my OP and crying fake news. The video has a statement The video is not from the Metro Confused

My neighbours might see me going to and coming back from the corner shop with a Wispa in my hand. What they wouldnt see is the key to the electric meter which we keep in a little case and i either am carrying the case in my hand or in my handbag.

yes, I wonder what a lot of neighbours think eg I am working full time ( to fund the pay of nurses etc as are plenty of us) and I have to go for work stuff almost every day eg legal letters which must be posted as well as emailed or only posted and that kind of thing. I am not even doing a daily walk and I exercise in the garden which I am lucky enough to have but it may look like I go out a fair bit but it's usually just to the post office or post box. I do the food shopping just once a week.

I think our saving grace here is I have not seen any police at all for 3 weeks which is rare around here so perhaps they ave concentrating on other areas as most people are compliant here. We have a doctor 2 doors up who is obviously at the hospital every day., Others have to get medicines or food for others or care for relatives etc - lots of good legal lawful reasons to be out.

Stellamboscha · 09/04/2020 20:57

Lol at cucumbers and lube -let's all do that!!!

Topseyt · 09/04/2020 20:58

HelenaDove, I am guessing that my neighbours may see two out of three of my DDs coming and going to supermarkets a couple of times a day several days a week. What might not be so clear is that this is because they are working in them.

DD2 cleans and does shelf stacking in a local one in our village and DD3 is working as a picker for home delivery in Tesco five mornings a week. Both classed as essential workers. Sometimes they buy small treats to bring home when they are exhausted at the end of their shifts. I think why not, and any police chief who thinks they have a right to try and stop that is an arsehole.

LilacTree1 · 09/04/2020 21:51

I think Priti has shut down the numpty

Ribena “ All news articles are so elaborated on and taken out of context or proportion these days. It's just click bait.”

The police officer said it at a press conference and the force uploaded it to YouTube, there’s no fake news or click bait here.

HermioneWeasley · 09/04/2020 21:58

It’s scary how quickly the police have jumped on the opportunity to massively over reach their powers and curb the tiny bit of liberty we have not already willingly surrendered for the greater good.

LilacTree1 · 09/04/2020 22:02

Hermione, yes, but what’s more scary is how people are practically begging to have their normal freedom curtailed or their every movement tracked.

That guy is probably on MN with his ideas of “necessary” shopping etc.

canigooutyet · 09/04/2020 22:14

It’s not all police officers. It’s some who seem to have a sense of entitlement and are on a ridiculous power trip.

It is scary how many do believe anything and never check things out first for themselves. Seems to be happening an awful on MN over the past few days.

HeIenaDove · 09/04/2020 22:15

Lilac its quite Years and Yearsy how many on here are crying fake news when the video is there for all to see.

i guess people see what they want to see.

LilacTree1 · 09/04/2020 22:18

Helena, I just started another thread about police....

Guy went out for gas and leccy and was told “you’ve already been out once” as well as being told he couldn’t use his garden

I’ll stay in for Easter. They’ll be back to harassing workers on the Tube on Tuesday, well round my way anyway!

SwerfandTurf · 09/04/2020 22:24

Christ, I bought some gin in Lidl the other day (as part of a large food shop) and the checkout assistant was like, “Same, girl, and good choice.”

LilacTree1 · 09/04/2020 22:43

I got a four pack of choc after going to the shop for the first time since lockdown

I know the lady who served me and she said “good to see you’ve got the important stuff on your list” 😂

Topseyt · 10/04/2020 01:04

For those claiming this is fake news, it isn't. It has been on every news bulletin I have seen this evening, and Priti Patel has intervened saying that this isn't what the guidance says. I would interpret her comments as a shot across the bows of that idiot Adderley.

macaroniandpizza · 10/04/2020 01:06

I went shopping today for myself but also got items for my family members that are shielding due to medical issues. It would of looked like i was buying all sorts i didnt need but it was essentials for 5 different people that were essential to them

RibenaMonsoon · 10/04/2020 06:48

@LilacTree1 it has yes, but if you look at the article, it has pictures on it of police officers interacting with the general public. The pictures have been captured in such a way that makes it look like the police are already doing this. Its always exaggerated. There may be truth to most or parts of the article but its always made to look worse than it is. Hence the"elaborated on".

diddl · 10/04/2020 08:49

So what are the penalties for buying something that someone considers non essential?

And presumably there's an official list for them to consult?Hmm

Laniakea · 10/04/2020 10:28

there are still at it! They just can't fucking help themselves - this from The guardian:

It seems Cambridgeshire Police have raised eyebrows on social media with the news that officers attended Tesco in Barhill, Cambridgeshire, this morning and checked “non-essential aisles”. Judging by comments on the post on Twitter, this has left many confused at what constitutes a “non-essential” aisle or item.

Officers have been patrolling supermarkets this morning, just a day after a chief constable was criticised for suggesting officers could search shopping trolleys if people kept flouting social distancing rules.

The tweet by the force’s Cambridge team said:

"Officers visited Tesco Barhill this morning as part of their patrols around supermarkets and green spaces this weekend. Good to see everyone was abiding by social distancing measures and the non essential aisles were empty."

Policing by consent my arse.

SarahInAccounts · 10/04/2020 10:31

This is why we stay up till midnight to get a delivery slot. No one polices my basket.
