Do you think our holiday to Italy will be cancelled?

We have a walking holiday booked at the end of June/beginning of July. Obviously I want this virus to be cleared up as soon as possible and dh is still optimistic that Italy will be over the worst by then and will.lift travel restrictions.

However, sincr booking I have developed back problems. I was seeing a physio but obviously that's now stopped. At the moment it's so painful I can't even walk.to the end of the road and I'm really worried that i won't be able to do high altitude walking with a rucksack.

As I say, I don't want this virus to drag on but part of me thinks that Italy won't have lifted the travel bans by end of June and our holiday will be cancelled anyway. What do you think the chances are?

@ARoseInHarlem there is no need to be so rude. Of course if Italy is still having issues (which is highly likely) then we won't be going and we won't be risking taking up valuable hospital resources.

Thanks for everyone's input. I've checked with dh who says the balances aren't due until 4 weeks before we travel- they were due this week but both companies have pushed that back, I guess in the hope that they might be operating again by the time of the trip. If it's not clear by then, we would lose the deposits (about £600 in total) but I suspect that the trips will be cancelled and hopefully we will get the deposits back if the companies havent gone bust

@emmagrundyforpm

Not rude. Just not sugar-coated.

You’re asking about the likelihood of going on an active holiday in June with a back which is currently so painful that you can’t walk to the end of the road, in the country that currently has the second highest mortality rate from a highly contagious virus, when nobody is currently able to predict what is going to happen this week or next in any European country.

It’s not rude to point out the flaws in even asking the question.

You can get a refund for deposits from BA but they have hidden it well underneath the voucher refund scheme.

@TheCanterburyWhales they changed it this week. There’s no 30 day time limit on the advice now.

TheCanterburyWhales · 09/04/2020 20:50

No, I saw that they changed it, but apparently it will still be reviewed on a rolling 30 day or less basis as before. They had to add that bit apparently as by leaving the words "indefinitely" in they would basically see the bankruptcy of every airline and travel firm in the world, and there was an outcry over it. There was a thread yesterday late on.

@EmmaGrundyForPM my friend was due to go to Tenerife in March. She held back, didn't cancel or do anything hoping the tour operator would have to cancel, as that would mean she got their deposit back as it was outside their control.

Sure enough, admittedly at the 11th hour, the operator cancelled so she received their £600 deposit back. I honestly doubt your holiday can go ahead, so keep an eye on the news and fingers crossed the trip gets cancelled so you get some money refunded.

Italy is still a badly affected country, sadly that won't change for a long time. I've seen conferences and events in UK scheduled for Sept being cancelled so that's a reasonable indicator about the severity of Coronavirus.

I’m working on the assumption my UK based holiday at the end of June is not happening. There is no way you’ll be going to Italy this year, sorry x
