Should he really be that optimistic? The man is in ICU.

Also "he's a fighter". And all the 4000 who died weren't?

Yesterday he was all in good spirits. Feel like it's not worth them saying anything most days.

Well I guess they wouldn’t say actually he’s pretty ill, catheterised, gasping for breath and we all think he might die. It’s PR isn’t it, no one really knows what the reality is except the drs and nurses treating him and a few select meme era of government.

What the fuck should he say? Stop moaning.

UpperLowercaseSymbolNumber · 07/04/2020 17:37

It was such a jerk thing to say. Implies strength of character gets you through and so those who don’t make it are somehow mentally weak.

sunglasses123 · 07/04/2020 17:39

I dont agree Upper. You do need to fight this disease, tell it to fuck off!

Lelophants · 07/04/2020 17:40

@UpperLowercaseSymbolNumber

Yup!

@CendrillonSings how about "lots of people still do well, we're thinking of him and supporting him. This is a reminder of why we need to take it so seriously and that the virus doesn't discriminate" yadder yadder and move on.

But no, he is special as he is pm ;)

I feel like the general public are smart enough to not need so much blah blah all the time. Maybe that's where I'm wrong.

I thought last night that it would be bad news this morning but I think they wouldnt be so positive as they are if it wasnt true that he is better today.

Of course something could happen in the future, he could end up on a ventilator but its better news.

Come on Boris. Fight this! You have everything to live for.

sunglasses123 · 07/04/2020 17:44

I felt quite tearful when Raab said he wasnt only their PM and boss, he was their friend.

I know, I know....

Exoffice · 07/04/2020 17:44

agree, it wasn't a very sensitive thing to say. As if it is up to the patient's fighting spirit whether they make it alive our of ICU. He probably meant well but the wording will probably upset many who have lost ones.

sadpapercourtesan · 07/04/2020 17:45

If he's comfortable, awake, breathing on his own, doesn't have pneumonia and is in good spirits, what the fuck is he doing in intensive care?

I hope he recovers quickly. I wouldn't wish this virus on anyone. But I'm very confused Confused

UpperLowercaseSymbolNumber · 07/04/2020 17:45

Gah, why didn’t we just think of telling it to fuck off, then we wouldn’t have had to set up NhS Nightingale. I will pop by the people setting up the giant morgue in Forest Gate that they can stop work. Has anyone got Chris Whitty’s telephone number?

Haworthia · 07/04/2020 17:46

Only if you overanalyse it Hmm

It’s just a glib little statement, the kind of which we’d all say in similar circumstances.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 07/04/2020 17:46

You do need to fight this disease, tell it to fuck off!

That really, really isn't how viruses work.

LinManWellWellWell · 07/04/2020 17:48

I agree - saying he’ll pull through because ‘he’s a fighter’ is quite tactless when lots of other people who are presumably also fighters have died. That’s the terrifying thing about this, it’s not how much of a fighter you are that will save you. But I appreciate the sentiment he was trying to make to his friend.

Dozer · 07/04/2020 17:48

Standard, cliched bollocks some people say.

I absolutely hate that phrase! Like if someone beat cancer it's because they were a 'fighter', not just, you know, luck of the draw! It's really disrespectful of people who succumb, like they weren't really trying hard enough or something. Angry

Collidascope · 07/04/2020 17:48

I thought the same. "He's a fighter." Yup, I wouldn't expect anything else but macho posturing from Raab. Not like those "girly wimps" who died.

Derbygerbil · 07/04/2020 17:48

Also "he's a fighter". And all the 4000 who died weren't?

Yes, a bit of a dickish thing to say, as it implies that those who have died didn’t fight, or were somehow weak willed. It’s the same macho bullshit that led to him working despite being far too ill to do so and contributing to his current condition.

Dozer · 07/04/2020 17:48

On all the “what not to say” lists.

Exoffice · 07/04/2020 17:49

If he's comfortable, awake, breathing on his own, doesn't have pneumonia and is in good spirits, what the fuck is he doing in intensive care?

I do start to wonder the same? my elderly neighbour has unconfirmed corona symptoms now for 12 days. Very bad cough, high temp and she struggles so much with breathing, that she had the ambulance out 3 times already she she couldn't breathe. She is not getting better but not admitted to hospital as she is not 'bad enough'. I call her once or twice a day and cannot actually talk as he is too out of breath. It's been 12 days is it is getting gradually worse.

there is really one system for some and another one for others.

GulliBelle · 07/04/2020 17:49

Yeah, tried telling cancer to fuck off once. Found chemotherapy and radiotherapy was far more effective.

refraction · 07/04/2020 17:49

I hate the thoughts and prayers.

Very well there isn't much else to say but it just seems so empty even if you sincerely mean it.

Ifionlyknewthenwhatiknownow3 · 07/04/2020 17:52

Dominic Raab was himself a lot brighter today and not as obviously shocked as yesterday so yes, I think they've had better news of Boris's chances today. Let's hope so.
