Feeding the family during coronavirus

This crisis has been so revealing as to who is stepping up and helping out.

I am so gratefully watching on Channel 4 via login online "Keep Cooking" episodes by Jamie Oliver. It is helping me cook quite a lot of meals for my family even with limited ingredients at the moment due to isolation. So refreshing and reassuring to refer to the health crisis and to be transparent that food shopping is currently transformed.

Are you on the Jamie Oliver PR team by any chance?

Scottishhills · 07/04/2020 15:17

No, absolutely not. Am a mum.

Haven't seen it but there's another thread also praising his show.

DownWhichOfLate · 07/04/2020 15:19

From what I’ve seen he assumes most people have bread flour, yeast and eggs. Which they don’t.

Scottishhills · 07/04/2020 15:26

Have not found that. We are really low on stuff. Impossible to get delivery spots and we don't have a car. But have been able to make a lot of meals. I like it that it is openly saying there is food shopping difficulties, not ignoring it, and the fact it's live.

He acknowledges that people may be missing ingredients and suggests alternatives. It might not be perfect for everyone but he's given it a good shot. It's shown me that I can use what I've got. I wasn't a fan before but I find this show really inspiring.

Sooverthemill · 07/04/2020 15:52

We've not had any issues getting food, sometimes having to get an alternative but no real problems except finding vegan protein. Canned beans etc very low on shelves. We have been eating our way through freezer and cupboards and trying to sue everything we have before buying new stuff. We need fresh veg and salad this week.

AdoraBell · 07/04/2020 15:55

I’ve watched it, he is not assuming everyone has flour, eggs etc.

Blurpblorp · 07/04/2020 15:55

I'm really enjoying the Jamie programmes although only caught 2 so far. It's a calming watch if nothing else and the food looks tasty. I'm learning things as well which is a bonus!

I’ve only watched some - he actually acknowledged at one point that he couldn’t get eggs one week but they were becoming easier to find now. I’m finding it really reassuring too, not sure why as I haven’t actually made any of his recipes, but I’m tuning in and feeling better for it!

This is funny ! But around here the shelves of baked beans and tinned stuff are mostly empty at the moment. But, bizarrely, plenty ofaubergines and flatbread, weird.
