September

I keep seeing on here that people think restrictions will be in place until September.

I'm curious to know the reasoning behind September? As opposed to any other month.

I can just about see the logic of schools reopening then, although even with schools surely the government will do it when the time is right, not September just because it's the start of the school year in England.

But why September for all restrictions? Surely that would just cause a potential second wave in Autumn.

I think this winter is going to be horrible

And we will have a no deal Brexit in December.

I think September would be a disaster. Surely then there would be a virus peak coinciding with colder weather in autumn / winter when people are more likely to get sicker. It needs to be earlier than that.

I guess people say September because if lockdown was lifted in, say, July it's nearly the end of the school year. So the kids might go back to school for a few weeks but it wouldn't really feel normal until the new school year in Sept.

I think restrictions will be in place for a while, I suspect the current lockdown will be extended by another 3 weeks (at least).

I hope that schools will reopen after the May half term. Yes,there may be a second wave when people mix again (most likely there will be) but that would hopefully mean it happens before winter when pressure on the NHS is worse.

I also think that opening after May half term will conincide with the end of the 12 weeks of shielding for vulnerable people. Otherwise, schools would have staff/pupils who are vulnerable off and possibly those who live with a vulnerable person. Plus, although children may not necessarily get the virus, they could spread it to family members.

Of course, all if this is speculation on my part.

I suspect it's as simple as this was all put in place in March. The DCMO stated the other week that life may not return to normal (whatever that is) for 6 months.
Many people interpreted this as "LOCKDOWN FOR 6 MONTHS"
Which, 6 months from March is September.

Restrictions in some form or another will likely be on and off for the rest of the year, but I don't believe the current 'lockdown' will be in place for many more weeks. It's not viable longterm, other issues will start to take greater priority ie mental health, economy, education, vulnerable families.

I'm thinking September because I can't yet cope with the idea of anything longer. This school year sounds too soon and I can't imagine them deciding to run school in July-August to make it worth going back for.a few weeks in June/July.

There's no scientific basis to my opinion. Just what sounds and feels right while being in the realms of what I can cope with. I could imagine holiday clubs running summer sessions for people going back to work.

I’m sure I saw something on a news channel that said this virus doesn’t seem to be affected by hot/cold climates (and that seems plausible as it’s spreading in both hemispheres right now).

But the burden on NHS is lower in the summer as other respiratory diseases ebb

Only when enough of the population has been vaccinated, or have had the disease, will it really slow. If doctors find an effective anti-viral treatment regime, then that would also change things completely

OuterMongolia · 07/04/2020 08:58

iVampire although it's present in both hemispheres it definitely seems to be causing more deaths in colder climates (eg Europe and the US) than, say, Australia and Africa.

Summerofloaf · 07/04/2020 09:02

I’m starting to think that as the weather is getting warmer this might cause a reduction in the virus. It might be why numbers are falling.
