My friends 1yo dd had a temp, it went away with calpol. She was fine the next day and has had no symptoms since. They isolated and friend felt a little run down but nothing even as bad as a cold. Got tested as her DP is frontline and their DD tested positive. The adults havent been tested but it is of course assumed that they all have it. The 2 weeks are nearly up and none of them have been properly ill at all. No temperature or cough in the adults.

So just posting this to make sure nobody ignores a slight temperature that goes away quickly and is extra careful even when you dont feel ill at all.

I know of family members tested 10 days ago

Squintybumcheek · 07/04/2020 12:26

Same testing policy here. Friends ds had mild symptoms and was tested as she is a hospital pharmacist and her dh is a gp.

Lucked · 07/04/2020 12:44

I know our protocol says tests cannot be carried out on day 1 and OP does not say on what day of symptoms they were tested. Just checked dates with my emails and we started two weeks ago so as the family in the OP is still within two weeks I see nothing untoward with the post.

sharonmarron · 07/04/2020 13:07

Custard I guess the numbers of tests are limited so their first priority is to test the person in the household with symptoms so that frontline workers who might be isolating unnecessarily can get back to work? Obviously it would be great to test all nurses and doctors daily but there doeant seem to be capacity for that.

My toddler started with a dry cough about 72 hours ago. No fever and no other symptoms. He is asthmatic, as am I. I’m also 5 months pregnant - so we’ve all been at home since the beginning of March. I have no idea where he’s got this cough from. I went for a scan on my own last week and was gloved and masked the entire time. When I got home I immediately changed my clothes and washed my hands. I’m stumped. Do you think he could have the virus?

Walkaround · 07/04/2020 13:25

mamsiz - if your toddler is asthmatic, could he also be allergic to pollen? Levels are high at the moment.

I'm a teacher. Just over 2 weeks ago I had a high temperature for about 36 hours. Felt fine after that although lost smell and taste about 3 days after temperature ended. Didn't feel particularly ill but symptoms do point to a very mild case of cv particularly as I'm generally never ill and never get temperatures like that.
My DH and DS (12) haven't showed any symptoms at all and finished their 14 days of self isolation yesterday. It's scary as if I did have cv it shows how some people can be completely asymptomatic.

mamasiz · 07/04/2020 13:29

@Walkaround he was tested for common allergens last year and all were negative. I describe him as asthmatic as each time he has a cold we end up in hospital with ‘viral induced wheeze’ and he needs oxygen on each admission. He takes a daily preventer inhaler now. It’s likely he’ll grow out of it from what we’re told. I did give him some piriton yesterday out of interest and it had no positive effect. His eyes are clear and he has no runny nose. Honestly, I’m stumped!

Walkaround · 07/04/2020 13:36

mamasiz - I have been told that it is possible for airways to be aggravated by pollen without it being a true allergy, because some types of pollen, particularly tree pollen which is prevalent at this time of year, are quite large. If your ds gets asthma from viruses, or eg, running around in cold air, this could still be a factor?
As you’ve been super-careful, I would say don’t panic, just keep an eye on things. x

We thought DS had it had a cough slightly struggling to be breathe having to take deeper breaths and a temp and it came back after isolation none of us ( family fo 5 came ill) turns out the poor sod has had severe tonsillitis and now on antibiotics. I think people will get it mildly or people will think they have had it and not. Wished I could have got him tested so we could have ruled it and and he could have had the antibiotics sooner.

dragonicicle · 07/04/2020 13:46

NHS staff families are now being tested in my trust too because otherwise staff are having to isolate for fourteen days so it's actually worse than if the staff member has it as they should only need to isolate for 7 days. So it makes sense for family to be tested as a priority.

Obviously it depends on availability and for us this only changed late last week. And there will be some variation between trusts

Louise000000 · 07/04/2020 14:08

@tenlittlecygnets was the weekend prior to lockdown and was only a walk with little if no contact so unlikely but still a possibility, I thought the incubation period was up to 24 days? My mum came down with it last Monday and she had been self isolating for a week before

tenlittlecygnets · 07/04/2020 14:33

@Louise000000 - 'Most estimates of the incubation period for COVID-19 range from 1-14 days, most commonly around five days' from WHO page (www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/q-a-coronaviruses)

Some people have got ill after this, but they're being treated as outliers.

That's why self-isolation is for 14 days. See NHS website: If you live with someone who has symptoms, you'll need to self-isolate for 14 days from the day their symptoms started. This is because it can take 14 days for symptoms to appear' (www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-advice/)

I am nhs Frontline. We think my whole family has had it. Unfortunately I didn’t get swabbed. Out of my three young kids two had coughs lasting a week. One had a two day spiking temp and laboured breathing. Dh was ill for about two weeks with temp then laboured breathing and fatigue. I had a cough for a couple of days , fatigue and was slightly breathless. Really frustrated with my trust. Haven’t been tested and been made to take a weeks holiday at the end of it that was already booked so lost that annual leave Time. Probably won’t be tested now so the next tine one of my kids gets ill ( inevitable ) I will have to isolate again and I l is thee will be muttering a about that. Don’t feel looked after at all.
