End of Feb, I went in to Birmingham on the train for the day.
6 days later I had a raging sore throat. 7 days later, an incessant cough. It definitely wasn’t the worst cough I’d had but it was dry and definitely ‘incessant’
Couple of days after this the flu like symptoms came on... I had chills, felt hot, very achy legs and random periods of feeling like I just couldn’t move. I had a headache too. I could just about make it about the house, appetite wasn’t great but was still eating. But then these random periods of feeling dizzy and absolutely exhausted where I could barely climb the stairs.
This lasted a couple of days.
Then I started to feel better. Energy started coming back - and then a few days later I was quite breathless. Sometimes from doing absolutely nothing at all, other times only after climbing the stairs. That lasted a couple of days and then... all good again.
Also had stomach ache, some nausea etc.

I’m wondering if anyone experienced anything similar to this? The only thing making me think it wasn’t covid is that it was the first week in March, so maybe a little early? But it definitely was in the Midlands by then.

Wishing anyone who is ill a speedy recovery Flowers

From what I've read so far on the virus, that does sound like it, did you have burning/irritated eyes? Or loss of taste and smell?

I've had some Symptoms linked to the virus but haven't had a cough or temp, but was still told to self isolate as some people on show a couple
Of minor symptoms and some non at all.

Did you contact your GP or get any info from a health professional about your symptoms?

Hope all is well now x

fairyfingers · 06/04/2020 22:43

I had the same thing at the same time a bit down the road from you.

Basically no idea. Helpful eh! I do have a link to someone who was a positive test but it's a bit tenuous

Ethelfleda · 06/04/2020 22:51

I didn’t speak to a Dr or even call 111 as I found it manageable with paracetamol and rest.
I know that the Midlands have the second highest number of cases in the UK and that they started getting higher numbers from end of Feb.

Just read on another thread about reflux - had that too! Slightly sore eyes, yes. Mainly the cough, the temp and the aches and the random breathlessness though. I guess it doesn’t matter so much now - but if I think there is a chance I’ve already had it, I would feel calmer!

I had one of the worst sore throats I've ever had, temperature, terrible aches, lethargy, dry cough and conjunctivitis. Went on for about 3 weeks. But in January. If I had those symptoms now I'd be certain it was the virus, but presumably it can't have been.

Ethelfleda · 06/04/2020 23:01

This is what is confusing me, I keep thinking it was too early to be CV. If I had my symptoms now I’d be certain it was!

Just assume you haven't . Yes it could have been but equally could be one of the many similar viruses that always are knocking about. I'm in a similar position. Frustrating but because of the government's inept testing we won't know.

Yester · 06/04/2020 23:05

But also even if you had now you wouldn't know for sure.

Ethelfleda · 06/04/2020 23:06

I would still behave like I haven’t had it of course. Gah, this is so frustrating!

I was very unwell having been to a huge event in Birmingham on February 8th, a couple of weeks later I had what I assumed was a fluey cold, I had a headache, felt kind of hungover, shaky and feverish. I was sick one night and had reflux but strangely if it was Covid no real coughing or breathing problems and I’m prone to pneumonia. I’ll probably never know but I hope it was and that’s it.

damnthatanxiety · 06/04/2020 23:07

Impossible to know. It was still flu season when you had your illness. It could have been seasonal flu. Although it is unlikely as the flu is not likely to be settled by paracetamol. You are really knocked out by it. It could have been a bad cold. It could have been C-19. No one on here will have any way of knowing

Esspee · 06/04/2020 23:09

Many people believe the virus arrived in the UK long before we are being told it did because they experienced the symptoms. I feel that eventually the powers that be will acknowledge this.

Realitea · 06/04/2020 23:11

My ds lives in Birmingham and he had symptoms in February too. This was around the 18th I think. I’m positive it was already rife in February.

Ethelfleda · 06/04/2020 23:14

Hmmm. Interesting.

I know I will never know if I did, and asking here is largely futile because of course none of you will know if I did. I guess I wanted opinions. An overwhelming ‘no chance you had it’ or ‘yes, you may have’

Silly I know. I guess we all look for comfort in different ways.

I am not aware that it was widespread in the midlands mid feb.

Instamaticgreenery · 06/04/2020 23:20

I’m wondering the same. In January I had a terrible cough, temperature, night sweats, lethargy. Slept all day. GP gave me antibiotics for chest infection which didn’t actually help which made me think it must have been a virus. It Went on for about 3-4 weeks.

But it was January. So it couldn’t have been?

Random18 · 06/04/2020 23:21

If it was widespread in the UK before, why is it only now that our hospitals are being overrun?

PickAChew · 06/04/2020 23:25

It's impossible to know. I had a couple of days, a few weeks ago, when I had the squits, things tasted funny or smelled bad and a raging headache. Oh, and a few hot flushes. I'm menopausal, so thought nothing of it.

cinammonbuns · 06/04/2020 23:27

It’s impossible to tell. It could have just been a normal cold. Won’t know until/if we get the antibody test.

MushroomKingdom · 06/04/2020 23:28

Me too OP, I have a thread on here about it. Also in the Midlands. Hope you recover soon Flowers

Goawayquickly · 06/04/2020 23:29

@Random18 yes, there were school closures in February In Birmingham and events cancelled too. I went to an event early February and there were precautions taken plus hand washes given out to every attendant and there were posters everywhere with advice about hygiene and hand washing. It all seemed a bit overblown then 😩

Random18 · 06/04/2020 23:48

I know there were some school closures but were they not more precautions because of Italy trips.

I was at a large concert at the NIA at end of Feb. I remember being slightly more aware and there were posters etc, but it still went ahead.

Lisette1940 · 07/04/2020 00:05

instamaticgreenery is exactly the same thing as you in January. Viral screen came back negative. Cough and high temperature for weeks. Diagnosed with a chest infection eventually. Was out of work for a month.
