Are you sleeping at night?

Although I do have anxiety at the best of times I normally never have any problems sleeping but my god, I just can not sleep at the moment (for obvious reasons) and when I do eventually fall asleep I have really intense dreams. It’s really taking its toll. I’m just laying there for hours listening to dh snoring his head off.
Anyone else a previous good sleeper but now struggling?

Yes but I keep having nightmares or anxiety dreams. Last nights dream ; I was supposed to be on a night out with some ex friends and kept trying desperately to put make up on and couldn’t do it.

Rewy · 06/04/2020 15:15

I find you tube ASMR helps me to drift off.

suggestionsplease1 · 06/04/2020 15:19

I'm the opposite for some reason - have been sleeping more thoroughly since the lockdown started. I'm at peace that I'm doing what I can personally and following all instructions whilst acknowledging that a lot of this is simply out of my hands.

I think I slept worse before because expectations of me at work were higher - and within my control, so that probably played on my mind more. Plus, I have no specific time to get up for now - as long as I get the work done. I think knowing that I only had 3 hours, or whatever, left to get some sleep made my insomnia worse.

EmMac7 · 06/04/2020 15:20

I’ve been watching ASMR videos too! Very soothing. 🙂

PotteringAlong · 06/04/2020 15:21

Not really, but because my kids aren’t. They’re all over the shop and it’s bed hopping central in my house

ToTheVetsWeGo · 06/04/2020 15:41

@suggestionsplease1 I am the same. Have never been a good sleeper, used to wake a couple of times a night and find it hard to get to sleep. Now I am fine, in fact I hate waking up now knowing this isn't just a bad dream

Afternooninthepark · 06/04/2020 16:12

Think I'd better check out some ASMR!

It's taking me a long time to fall asleep and I'm waking up several times a night 😴

Think I'll look up ASMR too!

AdoreTheBeach · 06/04/2020 16:26

No. Anxiety and hot flashes plus tinnitus causing havoc

catscatscatseverywhere · 06/04/2020 16:26

I am, because I still work full-time and more, so I am exhausted.

EL8888 · 06/04/2020 16:27

Like a baby. My sleep has been a problem for the last few years but resolved itself about 3 weeks ago. I have been busy with work and trying to make the most of my exercise each day

tanqueray10 · 06/04/2020 16:29

@Rewy I regularly have dreams like you’ve just described. Trying to get ready to go somewhere and I can’t. Have never understood what they meant. Didn’t realise they were anxiety dreams. x

IrisAnon · 06/04/2020 16:42

Some nights are surprisingly brilliant, considering I've been so inactive. Last night and a few others are full of very intense nightmares. Science does show that our brain rehearses real life scenarios and threats that might occur in real life, so I think all these anxiety dreams are just a reflection of that process.
My DH never, ever has anxiety dreams (sleeps like a log) and even he has admitted to having them.

bellinisurge · 06/04/2020 16:48

I try and exhaust myself and then wind down as best I can. I also listen to a familiar audio book set for 40 minutes .
Bladder usually gets me up again about 3 or 4. Mostly I get back to sleep. Except when I don't.

megletthesecond · 06/04/2020 16:50

Not really. I even had sleep paralysis last night. I'd not had it since my dad died a decade ago.
One dc runs riot at bedtime which doesn't help.

Rewy · 06/04/2020 16:52

Anxiety definitely gives you strange dreams.
Mental health can impact on sleep !
When I went through a period of immense stress/ trauma I began experiencing night terrors . They started before I even realised in real life what was happening. They were the worst. Took couple of years and much emotional healing to get over them.

Minesacider · 06/04/2020 16:54

I'm struggling to turn off and get to sleep before 2/3am. Then I get to this time of the afternoon and really struggle to stay awake, I'm going to try and get to bed to read at a sensible time tonight. I listen to soothing ambient noises on Alexa, which can help a little bit.

Skeletoninatutu · 06/04/2020 16:56

Nope that why I'm on mumsnet at half one in the morning....

Afternooninthepark · 06/04/2020 22:09

megletthesecon I’ve suffered from sleep paralysis before, it was truly terrifying.

CoronaIsComing · 06/04/2020 22:28

I’ve been sleeping better than usual it I also have that dream when I’m trying to get somewhere but something keeps coming up and I can’t leave. I thought it was just me that had them and I didn’t realise they were anxiety related although it does make sense.

thaegumathteth · 06/04/2020 22:53

I've always been a bad sleeper but when this all started I slept much more than usual but I think it was self preservation to give me a break from the anxiety?

Now I am getting to sleep about 3-5am. Kids waking 8 usually which is late for them but it's not much sleep. I'm shattered in the day then wide aw awake now.

AlbusSeverusPotter13 · 06/04/2020 22:56

Nope. Usually asleep by 9pm at the latest. Now it’s anywhere up to midnight, awake a few times during the night and awake for the day by 5am.

LoadsaBlusher · 06/04/2020 22:58

Getting to sleep ok but then constantly waking and tossing and turning
Lying wide awake struggling to get back into a deep sleep
Worst period of this restless intermittent light sleep is 3-6 am

minimummum · 06/04/2020 23:00

My sleep is terrible. Anxiety is really bad lately. As I suppose everyone's is.
