Easy way to provide exercise guidance... lower recommended step count

Wouldn’t this be a fairly straightforward way to provide government guidance?

For the government to say that during this time, the daily recommended step count of 10,000, that the vast majority are familiar with, is reduced to.... let’s say 4000.
But to make clear that this is ONLY a guidance and that the ideal is for you to stay indoors.

Yes - those without step counts couldn’t mean sure this. So only pitched at those with, of which there must be many otherwise the 10,000 figure wouldn’t be bandied around so frequently.

Thoughts?

Doesn’t help people stay healthy though, and therefore better able to fight off the virus though, does it?

I’m really not sure just changing the number would change people’s ideas about number of steps either. We’ve been pretty well indoctrinated into the 10,000+.

It’s just to provide some kind of measure for those that are struggling to grasp the situation.

No ideal but something measurable rather than Woolley

I have never once measured my steps but I exercise every day. So no this wouldn't work.

I don't think many people use pedometers and I have been doing some walking on the spot at home out of desperation which ups my count, so I don't think this would be helpful.

* I don't think many people use pedometers*

How come the “10.000” has taken off?

I don’t think it would be helpful either. Quite the opposite in fact. I’m trying to still do my 10,000 steps- a run outside then as much movement as possible indoors and in the garden, eg housework, Joe Wicks, playing with the children, kicking a ball around with kids in garden, tidying.
It’s important that people stay fit or work on becoming fitter.

I don’t think it would make any difference at all.

If they want to do anything them providing clarity of distance from home and time out of the house is all that would be needed. But if people are sensible then we can avoid needing even that
