Nan (86 and extreme high risk for Covid) dislocated her replacement hip this weekend. She was seen very quickly by Paramedics in full PPE, for her protection as much as theirs, and taken to hospital A&E. They had streamlined the entry process so she went in via a separate entrance to the Covid "red" side. She was seen by orthopaedics, blood taken, x-ray done, within 2 hours. She had an operation to pop it back in that day, and spent the next day in hospital so they could get her up and moving.
Obviously people waiting for operations and cancer treatments, are in a poor position at the moment, but it is very good to see that emergencies for other issues are being handled really well in the current crises. I assume on the ortho side, they are not too busy at the moment, as everyone is taking it easy at home.
