My DS 12 SEN rare syndrome (non verbal at all) can only sign! (Signing not clear only people who know understand him) he's came down with a persistent cough and sore throat (no temperature yet) I'm so scared! 😭 I know I'm thinking the worst but everyone is right? If he has to go to hospital will they let me stay with him? We are self isolating, please any advice I'm a absolute wreck and so scared. 😭😭

They 100% will.
Dr Ranj confirmed this on twitter. Don't worry.
I hope he's better quickly.

ChipotleBlessing · 06/04/2020 00:08

Yes, they will definitely let you stay with him. But at his age it is very likely to be mild.

middleager · 06/04/2020 00:09

I don't know the answer but wanted to bump this for you.

My own DS 13 possibly had CV after a ski trip to Italy. He was ok after a couple of days, which is the case with most children.

So the first thing is not to panic or let him see you are panicked. Do you have a thermometer?

just1think2 · 06/04/2020 00:10

Thank you 😢 I'm petrified he's my absolute world, I know me panicking doesn't help him but I don't know what to do? When do you call 111 I know this makes me sound thick but I have been keeping up with the Corna but when it's your child panic sets in and I can't think straight!

You ring them if you think he is struggling to breathe or if his temperature is very high and you can't keep it down.
You don't sound thick, you sound terrified and that's understandable.
Keep posting here if you need to. People will listen and help.
You are a good mum and everything will be ok Flowers

You can call 111 whenever you want to, I recommend selecting option 2 and not option 1. They say for coronavirus press 1, just don’t bother, it’s a central team who just read you the information on the nhs 111 website. Option 2 will get you through to your local centre, who will then arrange for a clinician to call you back and you can ask all the questions you need to until you feel reassured.

If he's breathing ok, you don't need to panic. He's not feverish, so you're getting ahead of yourself.Take it easy, give him pain relief and see how he goes.

just1think2 · 06/04/2020 00:36

He's breathing ok, I am getting a head of myself, I've gave him paracetamol and he's actually took it! He usually refuses it as he can't swallow very well also over reactive gag reflux too. (part of his syndrome) I'm dreading the thought of him having this, but the thought of if he had to go to hospital and I couldn't be with him just kills me!
I need batteries for thermometer will get aunty to get me some and post them through tomorrow,
I really appreciate the support and I know a lot of you have been or are going through or have suffered from this nasty virus. Again thank you for your time Thanks
