Risk of bringing virus home if you work

I'm a key worker and so is my husband. Can I ask other key workers who have children what you are doing to minimise risk? My dd1(9) has cried tonight as she is worried about us getting it. Just wondered if other key worker parents feel as worried as I do. Thanks

We've just been going through exactly this with DD (10). DH was having to go into the office all the time until the end of last week. DD has been worried sick and hasn't been sleeping so she's exhausted. DH used hand sanitizer when he got into the car, after wiping the steering wheel, door handle etc with disinfectant wipes. Then got changed straight away on arrival back home and washed his hands, although I was reading over the weekend that he maybe should have been showering as soon as he got home. I'm sure others will be along with more info. Hope you stay safe and your DD is ok, bless her. Mine is still very scared.

My DH is coming in the back door, stripping off and putting clothes straight in washing machine and having a shower in out downstairs shower room. At work he is wearing disposable gloves and changing them regularly, wiping down the keyboard (shared with other workers), keeping over 2m from other workers and trying to work on his own as much as possible. He is washing his hands when leaving work then using hand sanitiser when he gets in his car and when he gets in our house.

Thanks both, we are doing the same. Stripping at the front door (luckily we are out of site!!) Clothes in the machine and showering. I'm happy that our hygiene is good but I'm worried we will pick it up and give it to the kids. Hope you're little ones are ok

We aren't doing anything extra special other than decent hygiene re: hand washing and both of us get changed as soon as we get in from work. We already did all of that though. I am mostly WFH now but still occasionally have to go into the office using public transport. DH is a front line NHS worker. DD is a toddler with suspected asthma.

Weve had advice as key worker to leave shoes outside, go into house and shower immediately- wash hair- then wash all clothes you had on. Definitely a risk to bring it home in you as well as on you but what can you do....

Piixxiiee · 05/04/2020 23:54

Oh should add I work with young special needs children so no personal space, sense of cleanliness....

I worry much about this.
I do what others do. Strip off at the front entrance, wash hands then shower. Uniform already bagged as change at work, goes in wash.
I feel scared to hug my DD in case I'm carrying. It's shit.
