My 5 year old put a carrier bag in her mouth

Why why why. This has never happened before. She's never done this. We've had a shop delivered this afternoon. She wanted to help so she put the fruit in the bowl etc. Then I went upstairs to run her bath. She decided to bring a carrier bag upstairs to see if I needed it for the rubbish bin in the bathroom. she decided to pretend she's a dog and carry it upstairs with the handle in her mouth.

Now I am thinking how someone packed our shopping. Then it has gone into a tote. Lifted into a van. Then handled by the driver. I'm having a mini panic. I'm guessing it can live on carrier bags. Also the handles the exact part everyone's hands touch.

Out of all the things she could do. I'm trying so hard to protect us!

You have to just let this go. It's happened and can't be undone, so don't waste emotional energy worrying about it. Chances are she will be just fine.

I hope so.

Honestly she was probably at a greater risk of putting the bag over her head and suffocating than she is of contracting the virus.

Just keep a close eye on her if you’re worried but she will no doubt be fine. Small children put all manner of things in their mouths. It’s done now.

Deep breath. There’s nothing that can be done about now so try not to worry. Remember the chances of the bag carrying live CoVid are still small and healthy children have strong immune defences. The chances are she will be absolutely fine. X

She’s 5, kids do daft things.
She’ll most likely be okay Flowers I thought you were going to say she nearly suffocated

If you didn't clean all the fruit/shopping then no point worrying about 1 bag

But surely the food itself is just as likely (or as likely not) to be contaminated as the bag - not trying to scare you, just putting it into perspective. All the above mentioned people are hopefully washing their hands so it shouldn’t make a great difference in terms of risk whether you touch the bag or the product inside which would also have been handled by a few people - but you’re still happy to touch and eat said products. I use my own bags where possible, but if I’d got a new one it wouldn’t have occurred to me to be worried about it.

Yes. I can't believe you didn't fumigate the shopping before allowing it into the house ShockShockShock

She will probably be fine. On a side note, your DD sounds like a lovely and thoughtful child. Sending you both hugs!

Well it can live on surfaces 3+ days and with home delivery it has been handled by at least 2 people (the food) a shelf stacker and the picker.

And with the food turnover at the moment both those are likely in the last 72h.
