Dh started with symptoms of CV on 16th March. He was very ill for 2 weeks but didn't need to go to hospital, fortunately. He started to feel able to get up, shower and do very light household tasks only about 3 days ago. By my reckoning he is now day 21 since his illness started.

Our teenage son started to feel ill on 28th March. He has also been very unwell, spending most of the last 3 days in bed, loss of appetite, terrible headache and body aches. He is on day 8 of his illness now.

Our teen daughter came back to the house on 20th March, having previously lived away from home.

When can she and I expect to come down with the virus?

Odds are that you have either had it already or have it now.

I would guess if you were going to get it you would have by now. And for your DD I would assume if she is going to get it you will know within next week. I think it does for around slowly, as I think in our household I had it mid march, then dd2 late march, and dd1 now. No signs of dh getting it so far.

Women's immune response to the virus is different to mens, so you may well have it or have had it....

MrsL2016 · 05/04/2020 15:55

Studies coming out of China are showing that someone infected with the virus will likely show symptoms 4-7 days after exposure. But this can be as long as 14 days for some outliers. Hence the 14 day isolation period. I would say you are past that how and your daughter at the very end of any incubation period. That's depending on how much you have isolated symptomatic family members from asymptomatic ones and assuming you were exposed when their symptoms started, possibly even before.

Thanks all. We haven't been able to quarantine within the house ... it's just not bug enough, only 1 bathroom etc. I have been far too busy to clean every surface every time one of the infectious ones touches it. I have had some slightly unusual very mild symptoms (stomach slightly dodgy), mild sore throat, mild cough, mild nausea, no fever, no loss of taste or smell. But these keep coming and going. Dd has had a sore throat. I can't believe I have or have had the virus but at the same time I can't believe I haven't picked it up from dh given our living circumstances. If I go on to develop full blown symptoms that will be pretty unusual after 21 days yes?

Yes it would be unusual. What you are experiencing is consistent with research suggesting that most people will only experience mild - moderate symptoms.

The hysteria of ‘They’re going to kill us all!!’ which can be seen on some threads on MN are remarkably ill informed.

We need to keep the infection rate down to protect the NHS, not to stop 80% of the population dying.

Sounds like you have already got the mild version of it to me.
