Where do I stand?

Trying to work from home full time with 6 year old. Very intense job requiring full attention. I’m a single parent (dad not around so 100%care) it’s just not sustainable to do this until September is it?!
Is my only other option to quit my job and claim universal credit? It seems ridiculous to quit a job at the moment. But equally I cannot continue being so neglectful to my child who at the moment really needs me emotionally.. just don’t know what to do

There are several options

1- talk to your employer and see if they are willing to support you with flexi time, reduced workload etc My employer fully accepts that work and childcare is both unavoidable at the moment and a nightmare and has told me to just do my best and let them know what I can't do.
2 - ask about part time if you can afford it
3 - ask to be furloughed
4 - use annual leave
5- use unpaid/parental leave

I would try all of those before thinking about quitting

I would not quit a job at this point in time. It's not ideal for your six year old, but neither would reliance on universal credit. Ultimately, fed, warm and clothed trumps pretty much anything else.

Oh also, set up FaceTime/WhatsApp calls with his friends from school.

That's kept my 5 yr old happy and entertained for hours. She is more than happy to spend an hour on each call showing her friends her toys, seeing theirs and just jabbering away. She has to stay in the same room as me as I'm not comfortable with her on the phone when I can't hear and monitor but it's a great way to cheer them up and keep them occupied.

I thought new government guidelines stated employees could also be furloughed due to childcare issues
