USA holiday this year?

We’ve had a holiday booked to the US since January. Much looked forward to, very special holiday. Going in late July.

I need to tell youngest child we aren’t going. Just for the avoidance of doubt - there isn’t even the slimmest chance is there?

I don’t think anyone will be travelling anywhere for all of 2020 OP. It’s really shit but people need to be realistic

MoltonSilver · 04/04/2020 22:14

Nope.

We're in the same boat. It's definitely not happening this year.

nowmorethanever · 04/04/2020 22:16

I’m sorry to say that I have to agree with the others, it won’t be happening. Sorry OP.

I'm working on the basis that we won't be going anywhere that isn't within driving distance until the end of this year (I'm in the US).

Tbh if it is a disney holiday, it would be the last place I'd risk too. maybe a dude ranch in Montana or a drive down the California coast but not disney or similar where people are coming from all over and it is impossible to stay distant.

No it’s fine, I don’t want to go now! I’d much rather it was cancelled.

I just need to be sure there’s no chance before I shatter DDs dreams. I want to be realistic with her, give her a bit of time to process it but don’t want to say it’s not happening and then for it to happen anyway.

I am not cancelling anything ‘just in case’ but I am going on the basis of no country wanting to go through this again to the point that they’ll all ban incoming and outgoing flights for the foreseeable. I certainly don’t want people coming here to spread it all over again and nor would I want to go somewhere that I could also then potentially infect. It’s such a sad realisation tbh

AstiPooMante · 04/04/2020 22:26

I’m not voluntarily cancelling because I want to claim on travel insurance!

There’s a lot of time between now and July. Think how much has changed over the past month. Right now it seems very unlikely yes - but things are still changing quickly and nobody knows what next week or next month may bring or where exactly we will be in July. Unless there is a financial benefit in cancelling early (eg more payments due) I would wait till early June and take stock then. In the meantime manage your DD’S expectations, but keep things open. Nobody knows for sure.

I'm due to go away at the start of August & I'm praying it'll be cancelled. Really can't face the thought of going anywhere this year & although I hope we're out of lockdown, I'm hoping they'll be stricter on people travelling abroad. I've forewarned my kids that the chances are we won't be going (then I guess if we do, it's a bonus for them) so maybe it's worth doing something similar then at least the idea of not going is in their head.

Even if I was technically ‘allowed’ to go to the US I’d be staying well away from there at the moment. Travel from Australia, where I live, is banned and I’m not expecting to be able to travel anywhere for at least 12 months, probably longer.
