A year from now

How do you think life will be a year from now if you could best guess?
I know at this point so much is unknown and can change quickly but I'm trying to work out how likely the restrictions are to be in place after the next flu season/second wave and what next April may be like?

I know there's more important things going on and I feel very selfish for asking so please don't be too hard on me. We are due to get married and I wanted to work out how affected we are likely to be as family would be travelling to a different part of the county including us. We have also already put down deposits on most of it and we spent years saving. I really feel for all the weddings planned this year as I can only imagine how hard it must be right now.

Well, I think their is a good chance that a vaccine will be available in 12 months.
So, with a little luck your wedding will go ahead and you'll have a fantastic day with family and friends.
I wish you all the best Wine

Good luck with your wedding, i think its lucky you have paid deposits because i can see costs rocketing next year.

I hope it all goes well

Why would costs rocket next year? (Sorry if that's a stupid question!)

GreenTulips · 07/04/2020 13:59

Less suppliers, places in debt due to no business this year, lots going to minimal weddings etc as less people have jobs

AJTracey · 07/04/2020 14:01

Expensive holidays, house prices down, mass unemployment.
Flights go up as some airlines fail.
That said I’m sure you will have a great day. Congratulations

I think thinks will be back to normal in terms of free movement but very strict hygiene at gatherings in particular, similar to cruise ships now.
There will be a recession with huge unemployment and an increase in mental health issues.
If I were you I would work towards assuming your wedding will go ahead as planned, but trim down any excess frills if possible, just in case.

DianaT1969 · 07/04/2020 14:09

I would go back to basics if I were getting married. No planning, just the wedding with close friends and family. So that it's all about the marriage. Hopefully a great honeymoon. Then throw a last minute party for everyone to celebrate if funds allow. Last minute to ensure another wave of virus doesn't hit it.

I am in the ‘shield’ group so hoping to still be alive.

With a killed vaccine so I can have it, and leave my home

And a chance to run the London Marathon (I have a charity place, but who knows whether it can go ahead on the autumn, or next spring, or when)

MrsKypp · 07/04/2020 14:50

Agree with iVampire - I am hoping to still be alive.

I didn't receive a shielding letter, but think I'd be in the next group down due to pretty severe asthma and a history of multiple lung infections.

As for OP's wedding, I don't think anyone can make predictions, more guesswork. I'm sure you can go ahead and get married when planned, but how it all proceeds I can't predict.

I do imagine you might feel more confident to keep it very small in person, and maybe have a set up where people can take part via web conference. Between now and next year, web conferencing will have developed massively. It will keep your loved ones and friends safe, while still taking an active part in your celebrations.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding Smile

Pandamittens · 08/04/2020 16:45

Thank you for the congratulations Grin

Thankfully it is a smaller wedding. I was worried as it's not local and we have already paid out deposits for everything and really can't afford to loose it all. I know it's about the marriage part and that's the most important part but for us the day itself is also important. Without going into all the details, neither of us have been lucky in life and there are things that we will never get a chance to experience so this is our one 'normal' and luxury thing we wanted to have. We have been saving and hoping for many years so I was thrilled for it to be happening and within months the coronavirus strikes. As long as weddings can go ahead and travelling within country is ok then I'm happy with whatever rules still need to be in place, I just didn't want to get my hopes up too much.
