Keep thinking this has been the virus but symptoms don’t fit?

I know no one can tell me and until there are the antibody tests I’ll be in the dark, but I just wanted to share mine/my husband’s symptoms and see if anyone thinks it’s possible.

Sorry if this is very boring! I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read it. I have to stress as well that it won’t make any difference to how we’re acting if someone does think it’s possible, we’ve been isolating for a month now, family have kindly brought us shopping and left it outside. And we will carry on, except he will go to the supermarkets every 10 days for essentials.

About a month ago I went out with my friend and her children for the day, this included a trip to a packed garden centre and lunch there, although I was very reluctant and was very careful with hygiene. She has two young children.

Three days later I developed a very dry throat, not sore but similar. I had severe leg aches and fatigue.
A few days later it turned into what I’d describe as a standard cold, my nose got blocked and I was sneezing etc. That all went away. A week later the dry throat came back along with even worse leg pains and diarreah. I had some blood in my nose when I blew it. I had a very hot face, it wasn’t like a full body fever but like facial flushing if that makes sense? It came and went.

A few days after that I had a very weird right feeling in my throat and chest, like I needed to cough but I was scared to. When I did cough it hurt but I only needed to cough a few times. My chest just felt weird but nothing too severe. That feeling went after about 5 days leaving the hot flushes and slight blocked nose. I’m back to normal now.

About two weeks after I got ill my husband got the same dry throat and cold type symptoms. He’s also had aches in his back, a hot face and ears(!) and blood in his nose plus a tight chest and weird breathing. He’s on the mend now.

When I’ve mentioned to family that it could be COVID they’ve said no way and that we’d ‘know it we had it’. I should add that I also have severe anxiety so I’m mindful that some of the symptoms could be down to that. Any thoughts welcome.

Jewel I know what you mean, I also assumed all along that if we caught COVID it would totally floor us and we’d be in bed coughing constantly. Whereas it sounds like you had similar to us and they’d definitely be considered ‘mild’ on a clinical level. Although you said you did need to keep going to bed and sleeping so I’d say it did take a toll on you. I guess it’s difficult to tell as you have asthma as well and maybe have felt those breathing symptoms before? I haven’t heard of salbutamol, did it help your DP?

You’re right, it doesn’t really make a difference to know and I also will continue to isolate - not going further than the garden did exercise - while H will go for essentials as infrequently as possible.
I think it’s just for closure if that makes sense? If I had a test that said yes you’ve had it and now you’re immune for a while, it would definitely calm my anxiety!

I've had none of the classic symptoms.
Around the beginning of March I had about 3 mornings where I have woken up with a dry throat, but was fine once I'd had a drink. DS also was getting over a cold and seemed to develop a frog in his throat, which he kept trying to clear. (It was before we were told about the dry cough)
The week before last I had two nosebleeds, I'm 44 and never had a nosebleed before.
Then this last week both DD and I haven't had full diarrhoea but defiantly noticed a difference.
The strange thing is my DP is listed as vulnerable, he has the NHS annual jab, yet apart from a headache one day, which we think was down to staring at a screen and not getting much fresh air, he's NOT displayed any symptoms at all. I don't know what to think, just have to wait until the antibodies test I suppose.

Mushroom salbutamol is an inhaler for asthma. One uses it when wheezing and it helps you to breathe. It did help DP.

okiedokieme · 05/04/2020 17:08

I've had a weird set of symptoms including the hot ears! I've also lost taste and smell . I'm on the antibody test trial list so hoping for an answer soon

Thanks for replies this is really interesting and is opening my eyes to the possibility that we have had it/still have it.

@Deelish75 my husband has that frog in his throat thing too and keeps doing occasional coughs. I’m wondering if nosebleeds are a recurring theme as well now! We didn’t have what you’d call a classic nosebleed but both had blood when blowing our noses, my husband quite a bit more than me.

@jewel1968 that’s good it helped him. As I said earlier I haven’t read too much lately due to anxiety but I do see some headlines and I haven’t noticed many about how asthmatics can take extra care if they get ill with this. It concerns me as several of my family members have asthma. If salbutamol helps then hopefully they’ll be told that.

@okiedokieme it will be interesting to see what your results are when you get the test done. I hope you recover soon. Crazy about the hot ears!

MushroomKingdom if your relatives have asthma they may have had advice from their Gp surgery or they could look at Asthma UK for straightforward facts and advice without being alarmist.

I had the dry throat at the end of FEb, very tired, leg pains, needed to take a deep breath just to prove I could etc.

MushroomKingdom · 05/04/2020 19:46

Oh thank you for that @professor I’ll pass it on to them Flowers

What you describe is pretty much identical to how I felt including the needing to take a breath to prove it. That was one of the worst symptoms I think.

Hi mushroom, I also have health anxiety so have been trying to avoid reading too much as it makes me worse. The last few days I’ve been getting aches here and there, not bad but noticeable, and hot all over flushes and also just hot face flushes. I keep feeling like I have a dry throat and a headache and feeling very tired, so am also wondering if these are symptoms of Covid that I am experiencing. The thing is, we hear so much about the terrible effects of it and not really anything about people who have had it mildly or without feeling too dreadful, which would be so reassuring to a lot of us.

MushroomKingdom · 06/04/2020 15:56

I missed this reply @cheeseybeans19 sorry! I hope you’re ok and it starts to go ASAP, the flushes aren’t nice are they?
Yes you’re right, we hear more about the very severe and most common symptoms, it would definitely help to hear about some others - we may then discover some of those are quite common as well.

@MushroomKingdom how are you feeling today? I’m still about the same, getting hot flushes and have a dry throat and just generally not feeling well. Nothing too awful but Have needed to take paracetamol a few times. Wish testing was available! Hope you’re feeling better :-)

MushroomKingdom · 06/04/2020 21:16

Cheesey that’s exactly how I felt about two weeks ago, needing paracetamol but still able to get on with things at home and chat etc. I’m pretty much back to normal now but I’m still having moments where my face will be very hot and flushed for an hour or so then calm back down. And I’m still needing to do an occasional cough which I hate! Having panic attacks too unfortunately.

Thank you, I really hope this passes for you too! Try not to worry 💕
