What is the betting that people go to the beach this sunny weekend?

God I hope they don't! But what do you think? Are people going to be stupid and go to the beach on Sunday?

I think that most people are getting the idea now... at least they are where I live.

I hope so anyway...

justgivemewine · 04/04/2020 00:52

Sadly yes because as you well know there are the ‘special’ people to whom the rules dont apply🤨

HoldMyLobster · 04/04/2020 00:52

Where I live in the US they’ve closed most of the beaches.

hollybollyy · 04/04/2020 00:52

I really hope they stay in.

I wouldn't have really thought so. We didn't have lockdown when that happened a few weeks ago. I think many were making a last dash while they could.
I imagine there will be a small police presence in some places now they are able to charge/fine.

Toothsil · 04/04/2020 02:23

I think they will. I'm dreading the nice weather we've been promised and Easter weekend, for this reason.

joystir59 · 04/04/2020 04:19

The police will be running a checkpoint on the road into our seaside town. Be warned. Stay away.

GalactiCat · 04/04/2020 08:21

God I hope not. We aren't due hot weather here in Scotland so I'd be furious if those wankers got even tighter lockdown restrictions put into place because they are selfish knobbers.

MillieMoodle · 04/04/2020 08:41

There's bound to some idiots who do.

We live near a forest which finally closed after Mother's Day (it was absolutely heaving that weekend) but people are still parking along the road to go in. The car parks are closed and locked and there are massive signs saying the forest is closed but people still don't get it.

Carbosug · 04/04/2020 08:49

There are some idiots who, unless you put a padlock across their front door, won't just limit their movements as asked.
And even then they'd probably chain saw their way out, earnestly explaining how they 'need' to go to the beach, and they always practise social distancing and they honestly don't see the problem.....

hollybollyy · 04/04/2020 09:55

🤦‍♀️ I hope I'm wrong. Or that the weather forecast is wrong and it pisses it down all weekend

There are some idiots who, unless you put a padlock across their front door, won't just limit their movements as asked.

This is effectively what they did in China, along with tracking people's movements via the mobile phone network and texting them when they got too close to an infected person.

LizzieMacQueen · 04/04/2020 10:39

I'm not sure they will but it'll give the government an excuse for a further clampdown on Monday ( no bad thing IMO ).

This, I think, will be along the lines of France. Only leave the house with permit, one allocated to go food shopping, exercise within 500m of home, that kind of thing.

AgentCooper · 04/04/2020 12:13

Fortunately here in Glasgow it’s grey and cold. In any case, they’ve closed the car parks for the beaches in North Ayrshire (and hopefully the rest of Ayrshire) and as these are the beaches we would normally drive to, hopefully that will put a big dent in folk going there. I do think that it’s good that the actual beaches are still open for local residents who don’t need to drive:

backaftera2yearbreak · 04/04/2020 12:18

I’m in Scotland. Weather looks like shite here for the weekend so we might be ok.

mollypuss1 · 04/04/2020 12:29

I live a 5 min walk from the beach and I’ve been walking along the prom most evenings and it’s been very quiet, the odd dog walker or jogger. I’m purposely staying away this weekend as I’m expecting an influx of thick ‘tourists’ making it impossible to keep a safe distance. Hope I’m wrong.

Qasd · 04/04/2020 12:38

I do think so.

I think the problem with this is that stories of people staying in an doing nothing are not exciting so everyone likes to talk and write press stories about the few who are not creating a perception that no one is following the rules when a large number really are!

If you look at the average thread in here at the moment it’s always full of twenty posters who are “the only ones obeying the lockdown”...but twenty people cannot all ne the only ones!

Seriously I had a zoom catch up with six friends on Thursday and another group of four friends on Friday plus with my family today and I don’t know anyone who is going out for more than an half hour jog or to go shopping for food (both allowed by in the lockdown)..my Facebook feed is also full of friends who like to lecture the world about not going out again three posts by three different people who of course are the only ones doing it right. There seem to just be a lot of “only ones”

So conclusion either my friends and family make up the only sensible people in Britain (and to be fair they are a super nice bunch😂!) or really most people are not going to beach and having big house parties but that isn’t “news” so stories of the odd idiot are creating a warped perception re what is actually happening!

Pipandmum · 04/04/2020 12:41

I live on an island with a lot of holiday homes and there's definitely been more people around this past week. People will think it's ok to walk on the beach as it's been pretty quiet up to now. Enough of them do that then it will get crowded fast.

TheFlis12345 · 04/04/2020 12:42

I really hope the police are out in force handing out fines to anyone who can’t prove they live locally and are doing their daily exercise.
