Would you order a cake?

It's DD's 8th birthday in a few weeks and I'm a terrible baker, plus none of the nearby shops currently have eggs or flour. The thought had crossed my mind that I could order a cake from someone locally, but I dismissed the idea because I thought how could I be sure the box etc wasn't infected, even if the cake itself wasn't? I also considered that travelling to pick it up, or them delivering, didn't exactly count as essential travel, and what about the risk to the cake maker during the handover? Overall I decided it would be best to just buy a ready made cake from a supermarket. But then today I've seen someone ask for local cake maker recommendations on Facebook, and lots of replies. So now I wonder if I'm overreacting. And maybe some local bakers are in need of the income. So, what's the Mumsnet consensus?

I doing cake box mixes for my dd birthday end of month and managed to aquire some dried whole eggs online should i not be able to find eggs to make it. Also ordered candles with my shopping to put on it. I wouldn't risk buying a cake from a bakery or getting someone else to bake it at the moment as you can't reheat it to kill germs like a takeaway

This might be too extravagant in the circumstances (we usually share the cake between 10-14 people when we holiday as a family group) - but New Cakes would be a good option. We have used them 6 or 7 times and they deliver the cake to our holiday destination all over the UK.The cakes are well packaged and the blurb says they can last for up to 14 days if stored correctly (not in the fridge) - you could leave the box unopened for 3 days if you are worried about the virus. Not cheap of course but lovely cakes. They have a very good update on coronavirus and food safety;
