Is all "normal" medical investigation off?

Hi,

I have symptoms which would normally result in a referral for either colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy (have been here before!). Is it completely off the cards for these referrals at this point? I don't want to waste the doctors time of there is no ability to refer anyway...

In Scotland I believe it is all mammograms, cervical smears, bowel screening etc is cancelled so would imagine yours would be unless an emergency?

Hard to say. Urgent 2 week waits are going ahead mostly I think. But some endoscopy procedures are quite high risk currently. Talk to your GP via telephone either way, they will guide you.

You aren’t wasting time to check please call and ask. A friend had his colonoscopy delayed because of the situation but not everyone’s is.

2 week wait appointments are still going ahead.

As are urgent appointments where they are investigating a condition that could result in death or significant impairment within a few months if untreated.

But they can be very hard nosed about what fits into those categories.

You're gp will know what is and isn't going agead in your area and as they are likely the person who will have to refer you I'd suggest getting an appointment (probably likely it would be a phone appointment)

All I'm saying is don't not book an appointment if you need one, NHS are under strain obviously but they wouldn't want someone suffering at home when they should have been seen.

They will be very happy if everyone who doesn't need one would hopefully use their logic and leave them alone for a while though!

I went for a PET scan this week. It’s not cancer related and is only investigative. I was sure they’d cancel but they told me I should definitely still go, so I did!

Hmm, think I'll give the gp a bell Monday then and where I end up. Don't really want to have to go to hospital right now, but will see what they say!
