There’s loads of Zumba videos on YouTube, might she enjoy that?

How old is she though as there’s a huge difference in what I enjoyed from between 13 and 19!

mallachy · 03/04/2020 15:37

Davina McCall's fitness website is offering 30 days for free. It has hundreds of styles from pilates, to HIIT to boxing. It might be good to sign up and she can try all the different types to work out what she enjoys?

snowegg · 03/04/2020 15:38

Les Mills Body Combat is fantastic if she wants something a bit more feisty. Look up episode 14 on YouTube, but move the ornaments out of the way first.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 03/04/2020 15:48

You want Les mills on demand. Decent Modern music regularly updated and the instructors are both corny and cool simultaneously.

Its £7 a month but atm ive got me doing step, attack and pump, DD13 doing pump and DS12 with SN doing the junior programme. Its definitely helping all of pur state of minds and you well get/stay fit with it

the shabam and body attack (and some of the others) can be done equipment free. If you get into it you need a decent step to do body step and a decent barbell and couple of 1kg dumbells.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 03/04/2020 15:50

Cross post with snowegg!!!. The body combat is on there as well!!
(We dont do it as its a bit dodgy for hypermobility which we all have)

Upsidedownrightnow · 03/04/2020 16:37

Dd is nearly 13, i have asked her to try zumba and she didnt want to.

But she has been on the wii for nearly an hour and is working up a sweat which im happy about Smile

I agree exercise is the most important thing for my mood so thats why im so keem for her to exercise.

I enjoyed a boxercise one today (I just put that into YouTube, + 15 minutes as I knew that was all I could manage!)
Better than the yoga and PW ones we'd tried so far, IMO

HunterHearstHelmsley · 03/04/2020 16:42

Les Mills on Demand. Theres loads of short workouts and Born to Move which is aimed at kids and teens. 14 day free trial.

JamieFraserskneewarmer · 03/04/2020 16:44

Les Mills combat is great - we really like the one on popsugar with Anna Lowery, she is a super teacher

LoveFameTragedy · 03/04/2020 16:45

We've all been doing PE with Joe at 9am daily on YouTube. It is targeted at younger DC, but honestly our late teens are enjoying it!

cornflakegirl · 03/04/2020 16:50

Can anyone recommend a good channel for beginners Zumba? DC would like to try it, but we haven't found any good ones.

Dozer · 03/04/2020 16:51

Agree with Les Mills.

Not going outside seems extreme unless you or your family are very vulnerable.

Lyricallie · 03/04/2020 16:51

Tell her to try out blogilates on YouTube she is a really engaging YouTuber and they have short ones that really work you but you don't realise.

covetingthepreciousthings · 03/04/2020 17:07

Pop sugar fitness on YouTube looks good, saw it recommended by a few on Instagram, and had a quick look.

I'd also agree with PE with Joe too, I wasn't sure when we first watched it, but I love it now and do it every day.

YeOldeTrout · 03/04/2020 17:11

18yo DD is doing loads with her friends sweaty stink in the lounge . I will ask her for some names...

Thegirlhasnoname · 03/04/2020 17:15

Oti from Strictly is doing dance lessons daily on her instagram and YouTube accounts (think she’s otimabuse on there). She does one at 11.30am aimed at kids, usually around a theme, and then one at 7.30pm which is usually aimed more at adults

snowegg · 03/04/2020 21:05

@hazelnutlatteplease I'm curious about hyper mobility, never heard of it. But I'm what my Mom used to call double jointed. Very flexible but no stability. Actually fall over sometimes in gym classes. Same thing?

Hazelnutlatteplease · 04/04/2020 08:33

@snowegg

Possibly. The propriceptors that tell your body where you are in space dont work as well as for most people with hypermobility. So you can be clumsier.

also everything movement wise is harder work so you tire easier which can in itself leave you more prone to clumsiness. You need increased strength to manage tge lack of ligament strength. Joints often ache and/or first thing in the morning sometime joints just dont work

DD is at the extreme end though and is prone to dislocation (knees and shoulders), especially when tired or de-conditioned. She de-conditions really easy too, (eg resting due to injury). Periods and illness often wipe her out.

Practically it means we all work strength exercises before/more than cardio, (les mills body pump incudes practically all DDs physio exercises) and you're careful to always leave some in the tank as it were. Its important movements are controlled (body combat is lots of sequences of quick movements, i normally end up flicking my knee) and within a normal range of movement (which sometimes takes some thought). And we all take high strength vitamin D as recommended by DDs consultant. This really makes the world of difference to me and i notice it if i forget it a week.

Also My first aid kit in the car is ridiculously extensive in terms of ligament injury stuff.Blush

Hazelnutlatteplease · 04/04/2020 08:45

As a Post note They dont actually diagnose hypermobility often anymore cos there's a lot of it about. DS was diagnosed as a result of have other (actially more extensive difficulties), DD was diagnosed cos she hit a period of sustained dislocations (literally one a week/fortnight) and she ended up (pretty permanent) damage to the ligaments in one joints. They did diagnosis as part of the rehab because it was so significant and extensive. The physios treating DC have all pointed out me, which comes as no surprise.

Our shoe purchases are often very specific brands and not cheap (Dr Martens, kickers). Plus Insoles, Easy grip pens, writing gloves.

snowegg · 04/04/2020 11:50

@hazelnutlatteplease
Ah, I don't think I have that, or if I do a much milder version. Sounds very debilitating.
But now you come to mention it, body pump did help in giving me more stability. I stopped doing it because I found 2 classes too much on a Saturday, but I was thinking of giving it another go now I have time on my hands. You've spurred me on to do it now!
Wishing you well getting through all this.

Rollergirl11 · 04/04/2020 12:34

14 yr old really likes doing Chloe Ting on YouTube. She does pretty much everything, HIIT, legs, bums, cardio.

I did one with DD the other day and it’s not bad!

piefacedClique · 04/04/2020 12:40

Peloton are doing a 3 month free membership and they have dance cardio classes as we as new family workouts for different ages.
I taught some PE lessons recently and the cover work left was a Joe wicks dvd... out of about 50 girls I’d say 30 took part to start and a majority had given up after 5 mins... we then put on just dance on YouTube and everyone took part. Much more fun and they were all enjoying and certainly sweat more than if we’d carried on with Joe.

MitziK · 04/04/2020 12:40

Bloch are doing dance exercise routines on their IG stories. Very, very good for developing joint stability and improving posture/breathing.

ForgiveMeFatherForIHaveGinned · 04/04/2020 12:50

There are some full body workouts that an instructor has been doing to Dua Lipa songs, these might be fun for your DD.
