It's just we now have 33,718 cases, but only 135 recover. But all other countries have a much big recover figure. I think our health system may not be as good as Germany, but should be in line with the other European country. So why the recover cases are so low? Anyone knows?

Maybe we send the nearly recover patients home to self isolate then don't go back to count it?

Because we aren't counting most of our cases

The normal recovery period is around 3 weeks, I just thought there must be more patients who have recovered.

I’m sure there are lots. I suspect (and hope) I am one as I had all the symptoms and was ill for a week in early March - I commute across London by tube.

But I won’t show in any stats because it wasn’t diagnosed.

I'd read it was to do with the testing required to count as a recovered case and that we just aren't really doing it in the U.K. - don't know how true that is though!

I know it's tempting but try not to compare those figures across countries. It's almost entirely meaningless.

We only test those who are sufficiently ill to go into hospital. This is why we appear to have a high morality rate

flowerpeaceful · 03/04/2020 14:44

Spam88, I think you are right, I guess we don't put effort to test patients that recovered , so can't declare they are recovered. As we have to put all the effort of testing with the new cases.

I do notice when news mention someone is ok now, they don't say he is recovered, but say he is out of isolating. I guess that's because we are not carrying out test on the out-patients.

It's the same reason as why the number of confirmed cases is a lot less than the number of actual number of cases of coronavirus. The number of confirmed cases is low because only a small percentage of people are tested, currently those who are unwell enough to go to hospital or HCPs.

The only recorded data we have for "recovered" individuals is people who have needed to be treated in hospital for the duration of the disease or tested to make sure they are clear of the virus because they are HCPs. Most of the people who are unwell enough to go to hospital (and therefore be tested) will still be able to return home before they have fully recovered and are clear of the virus so there is no official record of the outcome.
