My 10 month old has been having some odd spells where she almost sounds as though she is breathing through a straw and her ribs suck in slightly but these only last for 60 seconds at a time max, she does not seem distressed at all during this time. On top of this she occasionally gets a blueish tinge to her lips but again this disappears very, very quickly and does not bother her at all; this has happened a few times the first time was 6 months ago. She does not cough during the day, but has coughed a few times at night which has woken her up.
She is in no way distressed, she does not seem unwell in any other way at all but obviously I don't want to take her into a doctors surgery in the current climate with these symptoms. I'm worried that she might be asthmatic, but I'm unsure of what to do.
I don't think her symptoms warrant a 999 call, or an ambulance which I think 111 would send out, I could make an over the phone appointment but they cant assess her chest over the phone. I'm really unsure of what to do, any ideas?

You do need to talk to a medical person. You may have to queue in 111

Shouldbedoing · 03/04/2020 12:41

Phone your surgery, they can arrange Skype or you could send them film of it happening.

Cornettoninja · 03/04/2020 12:45

Phone your surgery and request an urgent telephone consultation.

Your GP will be able to refer you onwards to the hospital if needs be but from your descriptions this isn’t one I would even attempt to ride out at home. If you struggle with your GP I would call 999.

Blue lips is a sign she’s low on oxygen and the rib sucking is a red flag.

Please don’t be scared of the hospital it’s the place where the people and equipment you need are and they’re highly prepped for exactly this situation.

AlandAnna · 03/04/2020 13:08

Call the GP. They are still going urgent consultations

AmelieTaylor · 03/04/2020 13:10

Definitely call your GP.

PLEASE don’t put it iff, she needs to be seen x

brownandpurple · 03/04/2020 13:12

My GP is still doing face to face appointments if needed depending on the phone consultation.

AnyFucker · 03/04/2020 13:13

Please call your GP and ask for urgent triage. She needs a face to face examination. If you get no joy from them today ring 111 who will push it through, either with a GP or in a paediatric observation unit. Do you have one reasonably locally ?

zelbazinnamon · 03/04/2020 13:14

Phone your GP, as everyone else has said!

Moomin8 · 03/04/2020 13:14

Personally if her lips go blue again I would call 999. Young children can't describe how they feel so it's a definite emergency.

PinkDaffodil2 · 03/04/2020 13:15

Call your GP but also try to get some pictures / videos of these episodes to show the doctor.

zelbazinnamon · 03/04/2020 13:18

Has all you describe been on and off since she was 4 months old (6 months ago) or is some of it a new development?

LowerLoxleyAmbridge · 03/04/2020 13:19

Once drove my 3 year old to a and e when his lips blueing for 30-60 seconds a couple of times and was told I should have called 999 for ambulance. Call gp immediately at the very least

CinderellasSecrets · 03/04/2020 13:31

@zelbazinnamon The noisy breathing and ribs sucking in is a new development.

I will ring my GP and try and get her seen today then. I didn't want to waste anybodys time, especially now when she seems to recover so fast.

She’s not recovering though if it keeps happening and there are new symptoms.

I hope you get in touch with your GP.
