The government has recently said that once the antibody tests are released to the general public, those who have had the virus will be 'immune' and can then return to work and go about their daily lives.

But what does this mean for those who have not had the virus? Will it be a case of waiting until you get it?? After reading this part of me wants to catch it, so I can be confirmed as immune as soon as tests are available.

It sort of feels like a horrible limbo for those who have not had the virus, or indeed may never get it.

Sorry that should say, the antibody test will confirm whether people are immune or not.

I'm worried too but don't want to catch it but I'd hate to always worry about catching it it's confusing lol x

People who have tested for antibodies show they have had it an will have some immunity for an unknown period of time . The rest will have no immunity. You are mistaken in wanting to get it, there is no way of knowing who will be very very ill. Includes some young and healthy people. Focus on trying to make sure you dont get it. Even if you got a mild version, you would spread it to others who may not be so lucky. Please be responsible

It isnt confusing its very clear

There may be a silver lining in that depending on how long immunity lasts in that you would be priority for a vaccine. It could make achieving herd immunity much quicker if immunity lasted long enough to concentrate on distribution to those not immune.

SQuueze · 03/04/2020 11:00

Well if people dont start catching it it's going to be a long lockdown till the vaccine ....

This is exactly why Matt Hancock shouldn’t have mentioned the immunity certificates/wristbands. It will tempt people to want to catch the virus in order to get the immunity proof. Anyone remember chickenpox parties!

I don’t agree with certificates or wristbands in any way other than key sectors such as NHS obviously. In the wider community it will cause civil unrest, discrimination and hatred! It’s a terrible idea. However, I don’t think it will happen, there are 66 million people in this country, therefore to test everyone in a year would require 180,000 tests a day seven days a week! Not to mention the paperwork associated with this sort of idea.

Would employers demand immunity before offering a job, could we travel without it and therefore should we risk booking a holiday and paying out thousands of pounds, should we use childcare providers who can’t prove immunity??? For all these reasons it’s just unrealistic!

LizzieMacQueen · 03/04/2020 12:13

It's a developing story. It'll change next week though I think some form of id would be good. But only for family food shopping trips, nothing more.

FishOnPillows · 03/04/2020 12:30

I’ve already heard people in their 20s and 30s say if they do this, they’ll try to get the virus so they can go back to work and earning money, and just resume their lives as normal. They figure they’re fit, healthy, and therefore are sure they’ll get no more than a cold from it.
So unless this is what the government are aiming for (and it could be - part of their initial ‘herd immunity’ idea), nationwide testing to the public really doesn’t seem sensible.

canigooutyet · 03/04/2020 12:43

What will happen to those who haven't had it yet?
Who knows. The more testing that is done surely helps to learn more about it. And until we know more about, we don't know anything.

There are many people sitting at home, wanting to have a test simply so they know they can return to normal living. We cannot all sit around at home indefinitely.

They can shove their bracelet or whatever novelty they are talking about, up their asses. The money spent on that racket should be directed where it is actually needed. Not used to prop up some mates business.
