Would you wear a mask to 12 week scan?

My question is did or would you wear a face mask to your scan? I have my 12 week scan next week and really unsure if I should wear a mask I’m really nervous about catching the virus and brining it back home But at the same time I don’t want to seem ridiculous or over the top stupidly I would feel a bit ridiculous which I know in its self is ridiculous.

Would you wear one or did you or did you feel quite safe having your scan?

Thank you

Masks are better for protecting people from your droplets than they are protecting you from theirs.

Which means, the sooner we all start wearing them, the better.

If you have one and it makes you feel more comfortable at the appointment, then wear it.
I would.

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 02/04/2020 21:09

I would wear a mask, disposable gloves if you have them, keep washing your hands. I really think hospital is one of the worst places to have to go at the moment.

I understand its a bit of a strange concept but I think its worth it.

DrSheldonCooperPHD · 02/04/2020 21:11

@nellodee sorry yes I didn't really finish that how I meant to, yes I would wear a mask and hope that others are too.

JasonPollack · 02/04/2020 21:13

I wore mine to my antenatal appointment today. My midwife was also wearing one.

If nothing else it stops you from touching your face.

woollylizard · 02/04/2020 21:14

If you can get one, wear it. There's new research being carried out which is suggesting that they might be much more useful than we (in the uk) previously thought.

LarkinSky · 02/04/2020 21:15

Yes I would wear a mask and gloves.

The WHO is currently considering revising guidance on wearing masks.

I have a scan tomorrow (FMU rather than 12 weeks) - I will be wearing a mask and gloves.

PrivateD00r · 02/04/2020 21:28

I am a midwife and we have been instructed from today to wear a mask and other PPE with all women, even if asymptomatic. So its likely the staff will be wearing them too. Go for it!

Pixie2015 · 02/04/2020 21:31

I would want the health professional to wear a mask they are likely to be getting closer and mixing with more people than you. If you have a mask wear it. I am GP and I’ve wore masks when seeing people who are well when I have examined them so they don’t catch anything from me- hope scan goes well x

LostInSaigon · 02/04/2020 21:54

To be honest i would probably give it a miss altogether if its just for a routine scan and if there are no underlying issues. I say this because when you go to the hospital you are putting yourself at much greater risk of catching corina virus. There are many cases of pregnant women and babies with CV. Also have you looked at the number of infected NHS staff at childrens hospitals in london. If you do go and dont wear a mask that would be unreasonable IMO. If it were me id stay at home if baby and body feel okay.

Wouldyou66 · 02/04/2020 21:56

Where do you get a mask from?

BackyardChickens · 02/04/2020 21:58

I work in gynaecology/early pregnancy and a lot of women are coming to us wearing masks.

JasonPollack · 03/04/2020 12:54

The advice, @LostInSaigon is to keep all antenatal scans and appointments. And how on earth would she know if the baby feels ok at 12 weeks.

Some of the people handing out advice on here 😂

12 and 20 week scans are very important.

What kind of masks are recommended and are they available anywhere?

TerriM86 · 08/04/2020 23:03

Thanks for all your replies. I had my scan today and in the end couldn’t get hold of a mask but all the nurses and sonographer all had them on which I guess protected us both. The unit I was on was also really quite with only another 2 women in the waiting room. So fingers crossed all will be well. Good luck to everyone else.
