What are you doing about your August holidays?

I doubt they’ll go ahead but there is a chance by then that they will. However, I don’t think I will want to take my vulnerable child even if they do. We have paid half of our holiday and really don’t want to lose the money. We are due to pay the rest soon. I know if I pay it all and the flight doesn’t go out I will get a refund. But if it goes out and we chose not to go we won’t get anything back. Can’t decide what to do about payment. What’s everyone else done?

Does anyone know what would happen to a villa holiday booked through click stay? Obviously flights are separate but just wondering if the credit note/refund thing applies as it's not a package hol?

Needtobepositive · 05/04/2020 22:37

No idea @LRCG. Im starting to get nervous about it now. Really don’t know what to do for the best.

Can’t get through to ask if rescheduling to next year is an option.

We go in August. Have to pay balance beginning of June.

Will make a call end of may.

I would rather lose the deposit than pay the balance and then have to fight to get it back. It would be covered by Abta but its just the hassle and I am slightly concerned about everything / everyone running out of money.

starrynight19 · 05/04/2020 22:42

The issue would be that even if we come out of this lockdown it could be we have another one in the foreseeable future.
It’s so hard to know what to do especially when you haven’t paid the final balance.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 05/04/2020 22:54

We have four breaks booked this year (of various degrees of expense!)
Supposed to be flying to Sorrento tomorrow - obviously cancelled, but no contact made by TUI re refund or anything yet, and have sat on hold for quite a while!

Uk cottage break on a holiday park in late May. Holding out to hear on that one. They've changed when the payment of the balance is due until just 2 weeks before we go, but I really don't think it will be going ahead. We hope the deposit paid will be allowed to transfer to the same week next year.

A week in London in Aug, but that's only a premier inn pay-when-you-get there deal, so no problem with cancelling.

And a girls break to Portugal with work friends in Oct, which will be when it's either died down quite a lot, or ramping back up again for the winter. Need to get insurance on that one as our annual cover is about to expire, but I doubt we'll be able to get some at the mo.

girlicorne · 05/04/2020 22:58

We are meant to be going to a theme park in Spain I will be moving it to next year as soon as I can speak to the tour operator, they are busy dealing with closer departures at the minute. Even if the flight restrictions etc are lifted I don’t think i want to be in a crazy busy theme park so close to other people and staff checking restraints etc. I don’t actually think there will be any leisure travel abroad this year though. We also have a cottage booked in the lakes for the end of August but I m more optimistic about that one, the balance isn’t due for a while so I m going to hold out and see what happens.

Have a cruise booked for September. Only deposit paid now. I mentioned to my partner at the start of February that if coronavirus gets any more serious, I won't be going on holidays. He's paying his part of the holiday weekly and I had to ask him to stop them weekly payments. I asked him in very early march when I knew the sh1t was going to hit the fan with this virus. I'm doing my best not to catch this virus and following all the guidelines. Hopefully we don't catch the virus. It's just to risky traveling. If we get sick out abroad or get stuck and have to isolate and quarantine. There's risk of taking home the virus to our parents (we don't live together and both of us live with our parents). Or what if our parents fall ill when we are away. It's all too much. There's going to be no holidays at all this year. I'm not doing it. I don't care. If he pushes his way for holidays, we will be done as far as I'm concerned. This virus is too much of a threat.

Meant to go to Cyprus with the entire family end of May, could only go in the May school hols as I'm a teacher. My insurer (Boots) says they won't pay out, they say it's up to Jet2 to cancel. But they kindly said they'd change the date for free.
Jet2 say they're waiting on FCO advice before deciding whether to cancel.
I can't move our big family hol to any other time this year as my Dad couldn't take the intense heat in August.

RarePackOfLooRoll · 06/04/2020 02:46

Insurance can be an issue if you choose to rebook.
Generally any travel booked before 11/12/13 March is covered for cancellation due to Corona (not in all cases so check your small print). Anything booked after these dates won't be covered. Obviously this excludes any policy specific clauses regarding pandemics, but in very general terms.

This is stopping me rebooking 2 cancelled holidays at the moment.

LooQoo · 06/04/2020 04:26

Yes, I’m worried about the credit note thing.
Ryan Air emailed you say our flights for an April holiday have been cancelled. There appears to be a “problem” with their website processing refunds though - have a feeling they are stalling for time.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 06/04/2020 04:56

I have holiday booked for end of June to Slovenia although so far all I have booked is the flights. I'm assuming it's still happening until it isn't, if you see what I mean. If not cancelled a week or so before I will book some accommodation.

mrsstapletonwannabe · 06/04/2020 05:01

We have Mexico booked for mid August. Fully paid for. I'm hoping we go.

Our worry is that a credit note is no use to us. Our annual leave is rostered to us and I'm not due to have leave in school holidays until 2025.

BillyAndTheSillies · 06/04/2020 05:15

We've forfeited the deposit on a holiday to Halkidiki in June.

It was a package and even though we would probably end up getting the money back eventually, I'd rather have the money in the bank than wait months to get it back.

A voucher would be no good to us because DS1 starts school in September and it would have never covered us for a school holiday time trip to the resort we'd chosen.

Also makes me nervous if the firm were to go bust - although I'm guessing vouchers are being handed out now to avoid losing cash flow.

CaptainMerica · 06/04/2020 06:43

We are due to pay the balance for a July holiday next week, and have decided to lose the deposit.

TUI have been quite clear that they would happily fly people out to immediate lock down in a tiny hotel room rather than cancel holidays if at all possible.

I am not going to go with young kids unless I think it's safe. So I don't want to risk losing the full amount later.

Charlottejade89 · 06/04/2020 07:56

Were supposed to be getting married end of june (which we are now postponing, even if they say weddings can go ahead) and honeymoon to kefalonia booked for day after. The while holiday was booked through Bristish airways and on their website it says they will either offer full refund for cancelled flights or rebook for no extra charge which is good, I've heard alot of the budget airlines are charging the extra for rebooking if the future price is higher? so depends on which company you booked with but I think its advisable to pay what you owe

Rollergirl11 · 06/04/2020 11:01

We are due to pay the balance for a July holiday next week, and have decided to lose the deposit.

Did you pay just the low deposit? Did you book with Tui?

We have a Tui holiday booked for August that we’ve paid £200 deposit for so far. £600 is due next week with the remaining (£6.5k) due mid May. I don’t want to pay the full amount and then only get a credit note back. I would rather cancel and lose the deposit but is it likely that Tui will say we still owe them money if we’ve only paid a low deposit of £200?

CaptainMerica · 06/04/2020 13:10

@Rollergirl11

I've paid £800, unfortunately - if I was you there is no way I would be paying another penny, but that's just me.

Needtobepositive · 06/04/2020 15:07

I’ve paid 2k. Another 2k due next week I think. I’m so stuck. Does anyone know if we’d get some of our 2k back? The deposit was £600 I think but we overpaid. Would we be entitled to the £1.4k back if we cancel? I’m guessing not. I just wish I could get through to them and get some definite answers.

News now saying to cancel holidays abroad indefinitely

Needtobepositive · 06/04/2020 15:16

Oh really? Sounds like we won’t be going anywhere then. Just don’t know whether to pay the rest of the 2k or not. Think I’m just goi to spend the full day on the phone tomorrow on hold! 😂

pinkrocker · 07/04/2020 12:04

Jet2 just cancelled everything til after May.

DICarter1 · 07/04/2020 12:14

Do you think we’ll be able to travel to our UK holiday in mid August?

brentwoodbaby · 07/04/2020 14:32

We have BA Flights booked for 32 July. Presently the option to swap dates/credit note is to 31 May- website reads that refund may be harder to come by.

Not expecting to hear about them until mid June but also not expecting to fly!

Random18 · 07/04/2020 15:30

brent I hope you have not booked for 32 JulynWink
