Can I give food from self isolating house to another house if they collect?

Just as above really. House in street struggling to get food. They are high risk so avoiding supermarkets. Can they collect packaged food from our door?

You could leave it on the doorstep and they could collect

Taddda · 02/04/2020 15:49

Can you take it to them, as their isolating?

(Nice of you OP)!

SirPenningtonsCat · 02/04/2020 15:49

Yes that's what we're going to do. Can we spread the virus via the packaging though?

I'm anxious it will put them at risk

Its low risk but they could always wipe it down when they get home and then wash their hands

LimescaleCowboy · 02/04/2020 15:51

Yes. I'm putting the bag of stuff on the doorstep (carrier bags handles pointing upwards to make it easier to pick up), then I knock on the door and step right back.

If someone can't physically bend down, you just have to cover your face (mask or scarf) and hand it over.

Things like paracetamol are just going through the letterbox.

It's all very disconcerting but it's to keep people safe.

SirPenningtonsCat · 02/04/2020 15:53

I've added some wipes etc for them to be able wipe down items as they see fit. Thanks everyone.

Yes, I’m shopping for a few vulnerable relatives and doing doorstep exchanges!

WTFrigg · 02/04/2020 16:00

Hang on - you are self isolating? As in symptomatic? If so I really wouldn’t recommend giving food to another household as the virus can live on plastic packaging for quite some time (days) so if one bit wasn’t wiped down properly could pose quite a risk to a vulnerable person

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 02/04/2020 16:02

Well it’s no different to buying products in the supermarket, they’ve been touched god knows how many times

Just leave it on the door step, obviously don’t go in for a chat or anything

LimescaleCowboy · 02/04/2020 16:02

They could carry it in with gloves. Spray and clean it. You could spray or clean the bags you put the stuff in prior to dropping it round.

You can never be 100%. Just do your best to be hygienic. I.e. don't cough or sneeze on anything, keep your own hands clean and gloved, cover your face.

It's more than a lot of couriers and deliverers are doing.

SirPenningtonsCat · 02/04/2020 16:02

Yes, we are an isolating household just now. No longer symptomatic. Isolation ends on Monday.

I would personally say it is different - in that no one who is symptomatic should be in there. Yes some could be asympotomatic and slip through the net, but in this case the food will have been stored and in close proximity to people who definitely have symptoms.

LimescaleCowboy · 02/04/2020 16:04

25% of covid carriers are asymptomatic. We all need to be hygienic and sensible.

Refusing food that can be wiped down, when in need of food, isn't sensible.

In regard to supermarket comment 😅
