I've had enough

Today I've had enough.

I've had enough of watching my neighbours go out every morning for an hour on their moped. Two of them together, no room for shopping, appear to just be going out for a jolly.

I've had enough of my other neighbours having their adult children over every few days. They definitely aren't living there.

I've had enough of hearing that my son's friend's mum and her boyfriend are coming and going between each other's houses.

I've had enough of hearing that my boyfriend thinks it's acceptable to go the local shop whenever it takes his fancy.

My son and I are at home together. We are going out in the garden every day, and occasionally take a walk around the village for a change. We haven't seen my mum or my boyfriend since before Mother's Day. I've been to the supermarket once, and won't go again for another 10 days. Why can't other people follow the guidelines?

Disclaimer: I know this is one of many posts complaining about the same thing!

I understand the frustration OP, I have it with two of my elderly relatives at the minute.

I'm getting to the point where I'm that tired of worrying about it that I'm now just tuning out. If they want to put themselves at risk then let them. All we can do is look after ourselves and our dependents and hope the vast majority are towing the line too.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 02/04/2020 16:59

Where do you people live? Where I am everyone seems to be doing exactly as they’re told (though i can’t be 100% as I’m not watching out the window). It’s very, very quiet.

Is this a poor/wealthy or class thing? Round here everyone would be horrified to be seen breaking the rules!!

Comicshadows · 02/04/2020 17:01

Being a twat has nothing do with money or class.

Cranb0rne · 02/04/2020 17:04

What worries me (from a purely selfish perspective) about people flouting the rules is that the government will decide to tighten lock down further meaning that life will become even more miserable. I feel like I'm only surviving because I can get out for a solo walk once a day.

Oh, there are many many twats around here...but they do seem to be rule-abiding twats! Grin

MintyMabel · 02/04/2020 17:47

Focus on you. What others do isn’t going to be important unless you can change their behaviour.

Epos · 02/04/2020 17:58

The number of people outside is unreal. Cars people very busy roads. West London here

CherieBabySpliffUp · 02/04/2020 18:01

Well that was interesting timing for the BBC to pull to the weather just when the health Secretary was asked how he got tested! Hmm

Epos · 02/04/2020 18:02

Outside my kitchen window is a green space and I can see a group of girls exercising with a trainer

ShanghaiDiva · 02/04/2020 18:03

Unfortunately what others do will impact us if more severe restrictions are introduced as a result of people being unable/unwilling to follow the rules.

Rover83 · 02/04/2020 18:03

I'm fully expecting my nosy neighbour to report me for breaking the rules tomorrow, I haven't taken the decision lightly but I have to make sure my family are safe.

My DH works permanent nights as a keyworker tomorrow is the only day we both work. Unfortunately our childminder is not opening as we are the only keyworkers they have offered an alternative that is 20 min drive in the wrong direction and would cost me £100 (childminder are not refunding fees we've already paid) my youngest has been going to the childminder for 18 months and has only just settled. It would destroy her confidence completely to send her to a setting where she knows nobody except her sibling and I suspect the nursery would call us to collect within an hour as she would be unmanageable. My mum normally has them one day a week, she is not in a high risk group and is still working as a keyworker so is at as much risk of catching it from work as we are. It is far from ideal but it is the only solution that will work for my family so I will leave them with my mum for my whole 13 hour shift and then bring them home after.

I really hope we don't get fined but we have no alternative.

Comicshadows · 02/04/2020 18:03

I'm afraid I beg to differ MintyMabel. What others are doing is important. If others aren't following the guidelines, there's a chance that the government will put in even more stringent measures.

I should add last Friday I left my DC with my DH who was between nights and I got home to find everyone distressed as DH was tired and grumpy.

We have both spoken to our work to get time off and it has been declined

Betty1233 · 02/04/2020 18:10

When you stay at home you can become neurotic . I am a key worker and keeping to social distancing but working keeps me sane . You can’t control what other people do . Just do what you can do .

RozHuntleysStump · 02/04/2020 18:11

My neighbours take their dogs out everyday in the car. I don't know where they go, but their usual dog walk is around our area. This pisses me off because I am only walking my dog round here- which is not a bad area but it's certainly not picturesque. It further pisses me off because I've had to tell my autistic son he can't go on his much loved drives because it's essential journeys only. I go to my bins and stare at them as they leave.

cansu · 02/04/2020 18:11

Stop watching your neighbours.

UYScuti · 02/04/2020 18:22

I had no idea so many people were flouting the rules
and they are daft enough to post up all the evidence on social media!

MeadowHay · 02/04/2020 21:45

Rover you wouldn't get in trouble for that. Childcare is mentioned in the legislation as being a reasonable excuse to go out, isn't it? DM is continuing to provide childcare for my DC, actually more than before, because our nursery has also closed down. She has agreed to increase from one day to two, so that we can reduce nursery time. We are having to move our sensitive, shy 21m old to a completely new nursery next week and not allowed to do any settling in sessions. My DM is not in a vulnerable group, and also lives with an NHS front line staff member.

Aderyn19 · 02/04/2020 22:01

I want tighter lockdown. There are too many people milling about, cluttering up small shops and spreading germs.

Tonyaster · 02/04/2020 22:03

InDubiousBattle i agree. OP you are going to have to let this go.

MintyMabel · 02/04/2020 22:16

What others are doing is important.

Did you miss the bit where I said "unless you can change their behaviour"?

The only person any of this is affecting daily is you. If you seethe about it, the only thing that will happen is you will be pissed off.

They will continue to do it whether you are angry about it or not. Best thing you can do is let is go.

user1477391263 · 03/04/2020 02:10

Why do people who were happy to do no exercise now suddenly need to be going for long walks.

????

Because they are used to getting outdoor time and walking time as part of their everyday life, and now they are stuck indoors getting cabin fever.

They are not breaking any rules. Perhaps a bit of fresh air would do you good, since it sounds like you are getting a bit crabby.

Comicshadows · 03/04/2020 04:18

MintyMabel we will have to agree to disagree. This is not only affecting me on a daily basis, it's affecting all the people that these idiots are coming into contact with.

I do agree that I need to resign myself to the fact that I'm surrounded by selfish, foolish idiots, and try and concentrate on those who are doing the right thing.

Reginabambina · 03/04/2020 04:44

You’re being a bit ridiculous here. Going out on a moped isn’t going to spread the virus. Nor is combining two households for social distancing purposes over two houses. Fair enough on the top regular shopping though. I would suggest you stop asking your boyfriend when he’s been out (or tell him that you don’t want to hear about it) and stop spying on your neighbours. You’re driving yourself mad by obsessing over other people’s compliance.

Comicshadows · 03/04/2020 04:52

You obviously don't get it at all Reginabambina, but thanks for your reply.
