Children in need of protection

Does anyone know if the children with the highest need are being visited by the social work team?
These children continue to be high risk and there care should be treated as critical care with visits happening.
I’m aware that some of the vulnerable that could go in school aren’t going into school. I wonder if there are follow ups from the school or the school report back to children and families.

Yes, practice will inevitably vary from council to council but social work teams are being asked to risk assess all their children and families and decide whether face to face visits are still needed or could be safely done by video/phone. Schools and social workers are being asked to follow up where vulnerable children aren't attending - not necessarily to enforce attendance, but to check they're ok - I'm guessing again how effectively this is being done so far varies a lot between areas and schools, but that's what's meant to be happening generally and definitely is in my area.

Yes, absolutely. It is essential work. Risk assessments will have been completed.
Social work continues. :) obviously less urgent home visits won’t be made but people won’t be left. Social workers have access to PPE.

We have pastoral staff in every weekday phoning home to our vulnerable students; the frequency depends on how vulnerable but some are definately on the 'call every day' list. Some staff are also calling from home over the weekend (staff in school over the weekend are bare minimum only). we are using video calls too and it is being presented to the kids as a fun way to check in, but obviously the pastoral staff are using it to judge how home is. Form tutors are also in touch with home via email for some students; I have students who have experieneced trauma recently so I am in touch with their parents to check in. We've also just had our safeguarding policies updated to reflect the way we are now communicating with additional pointers etc.
