A resident has tested positive in DMs care home

I had a letter from them this morning. DM is generally a well person not prone to illness - she has moderate to advanced Alzheimer's and her mobility is poor (she can just about use a walker but falls regularly) - her only underlying condition is t2 diabetes, and her blood pressure is a little high. She is 82.

I don't know what to think. I'm not gripped with fear just yet, I know they will do everything they can to prevent the spread of infection and I'm just so grateful she is being cared for by professionals who have no choice but to go to work. But Covid-19 has been known to decimate care homes in other countries hasn't it.

There are 3 floors and about 75 residents - the shift lead told me last week that they had had an influx of new residents from the nearby hospitals, presumably bed clearing. Just got to hope for the best I suppose. I can't even go and see her.

I’m sorry to hear this. You must feel very helpless in this situation xxx

That’s awful.

I hope she’s ok. But you can’t see them can you?

My grandmother is in the same boat, they are kept in their rooms (rightly so) but she isn’t tech savvy to skype or FaceTime.

We are all ringing but they feel so alone.

Somewhat fortunately, mum isn't aware of very much and has forgotten she has a daughter. When I visit she chats to me as though I'm her sister, so I don't think she's there feeling lonely wondering when her daughter is coming.

But I still miss her, and I don't want her to die without me being there with her.

OP I'm sorry to hear that. But please don't think the worst.

My DSis work is in a residential home that had a case of COVID 19 which sent us all into a panic, it was before lockdown and the schools closed so we were still all seeing each other.
Thankfully it still remains that it's just one resident that has tested positive, several others were tested and were negative.
Just to add they're recovering well. Keep positive.

I messaged my brother in NZ but I don't think he appreciates the significance of it.

That's good to hear Mex, thanks! I'm not in a lather yet, just a bit worried and feeling rather alone with it.
