Alternatives to hand sanitiser

The hand sanitiser has run out and I can't find any for sale.

When I go on walks with my children they inevitably touch railings / bins /lampposts, and we don't have access to soap and water till we get home.

I guess baby wipes are no good in this situation? How about a wet soapy flannel in a plastic bag?

Depends on how old yours are I guess. Mine are 4, 7 and 10 and I have read them the riot act about not touching anything whilst we are out. They have been very good and then we just wash with soap when we get home which is more effective than anything else anyway.

Maybe a couple of wet soapy flannels and a bottle of water to rinse.

Kitchen roll sheet soaked in dettol.

My youngest is 4 and doesn't really understand about germs.

We use soap and water at home so it's just for when we're out. I normally wipe hands with a baby wipe but started using alcohol gel when all of this started. Unfortunately I only had a quarter of a bottle left and that's gone.

Get tougher with them, my 3 year old knows about the virus and we mustn't touch anything if we go for a walk. If you insist on them not touching anything then you'll be fine to wait until you get home. I imagine a wipe will be pretty useless. If they can't keep their hands to themselves then a flask of water to pour over their hands whilst they rub is probably the best thing.

PickAChew · 02/04/2020 00:21

Wash their hands when you get home.

Do you have rubbing alcohol or surgical spirit? You can make your own, mixed with aloe vera.

Kittywampus · 02/04/2020 00:30

I don't have rubbing alcohol but I do have vodka and an aloe Vera plant...

Vodka won't be high enough alcohol content.

Superlooper · 02/04/2020 00:40

Make them wear winter gloves so they don't lick their fingers after touching something?

TonytheDog · 02/04/2020 00:46

Could you take a bottle of soapy water and just pour it over their hands while they wash them? Take a flannel to dry them on.

Kittywampus · 02/04/2020 10:36

Thanks, I think we'll go with wearing gloves and soapy water as a backup
