Supermarket restocking

I’ve spoken to a few friends and family members tonight who have all said that whilst stores are limiting numbers going in, giving advice about distancing etc the only time this is difficult to adhere to is when passing a large amount of staff restocking shelves. This is obviously unavoidable but a massive risk to the supermarket workers and shoppers.

How about supermarkets close for some time a few times a day to get this done without a risk to staff or the public or is this a ridiculous idea?

I think this is good idea and know lots of people who think the same.

Maybe shut 1 to 3 each day for example.

Tesco are closed overnight to restock and if staff are filling an aisle during the day they can close them off to customers with barriers.

@yubaba that is good. We shop at Sainsburys and friends at Sainsburys and Morrison’s and this is causing a lot of anxiety as it isn’t normal practice there it seems so you’re just walking past staff

Went to Boots the other day, to find they have an additional hour of closing 1pm-2pm. Wouldn’t mind had this information been publicised beforehand, but only found out when the security guard wouldn’t let me in at 12:50. I wasn’t going to wait outside for an hour so left it. But many people won’t have that option for food shopping, so it’s too inconvenient. It would cause an unnecessary surge of customers when they reopen instead of a normal flow throughout the day.

I live in a large city - as an example most stores generally close at 8pm, some even later or operate 24 hours. Opening hours have already been curtailed as it is, I think people in my city would have difficulties shopping if they were curtailed the hours further.

Generally close at 8pm in normal circumstances that is
