... Just for a few days? How did it make you feel?

Gilead · 01/04/2020 22:25

I feel better. I can cope with self isolation, I’m autistic, it suits me. The news however was mashing my brain into a ball of OCD hand washing with associated doom and gloom.

foxyknoxy30 · 01/04/2020 22:25

I have stopped as it is really affecting my mental health and makes me feel extremely anxious watching it

delilahbucket · 01/04/2020 22:27

Oh yes. I've ditched Facebook too. Neither are good for me. If there's anything major I need to find out, I will.

gamerchick · 01/04/2020 22:28

I dip in once a day just for a brief catch up on any developments. It's a good thing. I don't think back to back news on one topic, any topic that's more or less out of your control is good for your mental health. It's like a form of self harm imo.

megletthesecond · 01/04/2020 22:30

Yes. Stopped over two weeks ago. I couldn't cope with it.
I quickly check the guardian app a couple of times a day and dip in and out of Twitter. And MN. If something vital happens I won't miss it.

PlugUgly1980 · 01/04/2020 22:32

We have - use to watch 10 o clock news every night, but it was too harrowing to watch just before going to bed. I look at the news headlines on the BBC website after the daily briefing but that's it. Feel much better for it.

covetingthepreciousthings · 01/04/2020 22:32

Yes, I've stopped watching most of the daily briefings now too. I do feel slightly better, and trying to reduce my mumsnet Corona virus board consumption too.

It just made me completely anxious

EsmeeMerlin · 01/04/2020 22:34

I no longer watch the news, if there is a big announcement i’ll find out. My ibs has been really bad, I have come out in itchy hives everywhere. Something has to give. I am doing all I can do and staying home with my two children, dh is working but also doing all he can. We are also checking with family members. I gain nothing but more anxiety from the news right now.

Willowmartha1 · 01/04/2020 22:35

I'm thinking about it. I feel incredibly anxious about myself and my family and can't help feeling that we are all just sitting ducks waiting to get it.

Mysocalledlifexx · 01/04/2020 22:37

Yeah we have ,i feel the same as willow.

fedupfrida · 01/04/2020 22:40

Yes, me. Stopped altogether now. Told DH to let me know anything important. The news was making me too anxious and I was unable to show up for the children as I wanted to. I’m glad I’m not alone Flowers

EngagedAgain · 01/04/2020 22:42

I haven't been watching the news, but that's more likely because I don't anyway. Even before this I found it depressing. I keep up with virus events online briefly just once a day.

Carrie7469 · 01/04/2020 22:44

It's good to hear other people's experiences. I've decided no need until the weekend. I've turned off the BBC news app notifications and look at the news for a few days. It's just making me anxious and not helping.
Stay safe everyone

No news, not no need 😃

SlowDownHorsey · 01/04/2020 22:56

I've noticed I'm watching / reading news less certainly.

I don't use social media anyway, certainly not Facebook.

Also stopped visiting Mumsnet as much, too much hysteria and anxiety compared to normal. And that's saying something!

fluffy71 · 01/04/2020 23:02

Felt ok until today. Think it might time to get off FB. All the home teaching success stories are getting to me!

HeIsAVeryBadBoy · 01/04/2020 23:02

I stopped two weeks ago and my head feels so much calmer with it. I'm the same as Gilead, self-isolation is fine but the news drives me nuts with anxiety. I was having suicidal thoughts, the lot. It was just too much for me to handle. I'm normally a strong person but this is such an extraordinary period of time.

HeIsAVeryBadBoy · 01/04/2020 23:03

And I don't do social media except for LinkedIn and even my feed on that is a bit much for me to deal with.

Caselgarcia · 01/04/2020 23:06

I've stopped watching now, so depressing. Especially Channel 4 news, just one bad story after another.

KaptenKrusty · 01/04/2020 23:07

Stopped weeks ago! Even haven’t been on here for a few weeks now as it all gets a bit much! I’d rather just relax in the isolation and enjoy the time working at home ! Don’t need to hear the death toll for the day or how serious it all is - not helpful for my mental health to be reminded of that constantly!

Willowmartha1 · 01/04/2020 23:07

I do wish Beth Rigsby would pronounce the ends of her words properly. It's testing not testin ! Drives me mad.

JamMakingWannaBe · 01/04/2020 23:11

I watched the TV news the other week and felt like I was in a disaster movie. Not done it since.

42isthemeaning · 01/04/2020 23:13

I never watch tv news but I do listen to the radio a lot during the day. However the constant depressing news and live coverage of those briefings are not good for my mental health. I now mostly listen to LBC when James O Brien or Steve Allen are on, or Nicky Campbell on 5 live, and just switch off the news when it comes on. I feel better for not engaging in it which sounds awful, but it's not been doing me any good at all.

bengalcat · 01/04/2020 23:14

I still watch the 10pm news most nights as always . Buy the odd newspaper .

EmmaC78 · 01/04/2020 23:15

This time last week I was watching the news for hours on end, at the start of this week I cut it down to just watching the gvmt press conference and today I watched nothing at all. Feel much better for it. I checked the bbc news website once today so think i will try and keep to that.
