Will

So I know I've been stupid as a single mum I have not written a will. I just didn't make the time.
I'm in a high risk group so I need to make provision now. I am living from paycheck to paycheck with a maintenance dodging dickhead for a nrp.
I need to know the cheapest possible way to get a will written that is legit (and doesn't involve a printer during this isolation). Thanks

Can anyone help please? Or recommend where I go?

I used Farewill and it was very straightforward. I can't remember how much I paid - £65?

everybodysang · 02/04/2020 14:06

Ah - I did have to get it witnessed and that involved printing but I bet if you gave them a ring/emailed they'd be able to advise.

MoreGruel · 02/04/2020 14:13

You can download free templates online but you will need to sign before a witness if the will is to be valid. Do you have a neighbour you trust who could print it for you and then watch you sign from a distance before signing themselves? The witness can’t be a beneficiary of the will.

Oh brilliant. Thanks @Moregruel

Do you know where I find a free template online? What do I type in?

Might be difficult to get it witnessed with social distancing.

Also, what do you want the will to say? Some people think that they can use a will to specify that someone other than their ex should have the children but that wouldn't work.

Kochicoo · 02/04/2020 14:40

I'm sure you'll read this but you have to have two witnesses for it to be valid, not just one. If you really couldn't get access to a printer, you could hand write it - copying from your screen, then you must sign and date it at same time as 2 witnesses see you sign it and then they sign.

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 02/04/2020 14:42

Also, the witnesses can't be people who are due to inherit under the will, otherwise the gifts to them fail.

Ok thanks guys. Some food for thought. I just want to leave everything to DC.
How do I appoint a guardian legally then? I have no relatives. My ex wouldn't want or be capable of being a resident parent. If I die, is that who they will try to put DC with?
He's not named on the birth certificate and doesn't ever have any overnights and never has

There is a poster on MN called @Mumblechum I think it is, who may be able to help you.

Perhaps post in the legal section?

You can use a charity such as above to get a simple will made for free. The charity covers the costs, but is grateful for anything you would like to leave them.

Thanks &Horsemad and @HangingOverTheEdge
