What happens if obviously vulnerable people don't get a letter to prove it?

I've heard this from several different people now, including my parents who are in their 70s with a long list of conditions between them which make them extra vulnerable.

Who's responsible for sending these letters out, or will they be on some list instead?

Register here.

You can do it on their behalf.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 01/04/2020 21:23

Register is for England only though

You have to have very specific conditions to be considered extremely vulnerable though, so check the criteria. I need a kidney transplant and I'm not on the list.

ViciousTrollope · 01/04/2020 21:42

Yep Toad the criteria for eligibility are much more strict than most people realise.

I work for the NHS and were being inundated with calls from people who think they should be on the list but don't actually meet the criteria. It's a very difficult situation.

The trouble is that it's a list of people vulnerable to the virus, but supermarkets etc are treating it like a list of all the people who need help and that's obviously wrong. Lots of people who need help (or just a food delivery) won't be on that list.

Most people are expected to arrange their own support. There are lots of local networks that are helping people.

The extremely vulnerable group is small

People falling into this extremely vulnerable group include:

Solid organ transplant recipients.

People with specific cancers:
people with cancer who are undergoing active chemotherapy
people with lung cancer who are undergoing radical radiotherapy
people with cancers of the blood or bone marrow such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma who are at any stage of treatment
people having immunotherapy or other continuing antibody treatments for cancer
people having other targeted cancer treatments which can affect the immune system, such as protein kinase inhibitors or PARP inhibitors
people who have had bone marrow or stem cell transplants in the last 6 months, or who are still taking immunosuppression drugs

People with severe respiratory conditions including all cystic fibrosis, severe asthma and severe COPD.

People with rare diseases and inborn errors of metabolism that significantly increase the risk of infections (such as SCID, homozygous sickle cell).

People on immunosuppression therapies sufficient to significantly increase risk of infection.

Women who are pregnant with significant heart disease, congenital or acquired.

Thanks @ViciousTrollope that's great! Yes, my Dad qualifies based on at least two conditions on that list, so I've logged him with them now.
