Working tax credits

Do these still exist? Does anyone know the threshold? Will they apply to where the drop in salary is temporary? I'm disabled and on reduced hours. I doubt I'm entitled to anything but if I am I will be claiming it.

I get working tax credits but you can't make new applications for them unfortunately, you will have to put in a claim for Universal Credit. Best thing to do is get in touch and ask, easier said than done I know! The threshold depends on whether you're single or in a couple and how many children you have, if any.

Do you get any benefits at the moment? PIP (Personal Independence Payment)?? If you get PIP and live alone you might still be able to make a new claim for "legacy benefits" (of which tax credits are one). Otherwise it will be UC as Waxon said.

yes, I get PIP and I live alone. My income has certainly been too high till now but I think the 20% drop may take me under the threshold.

OK. If you're not on any benefits other than PIP, you will need to claim universal credit.

With the old tax credits your salary has to go up or down by £2500 to trigger a change in that financial year so a short term drop wouldn't mean you would get an increase. With universal credit it goes by monthly income rather than annual so worth putting in a claim.

Do you get a severe disability premium Helen? Must be severe rather than enhanced. If so you can still apply for legacy benefits. If not, then it's UC.

Helenshielding · 01/04/2020 21:12

I don't get any income based benefits so nothing to get enhancements on. Def not entitled to UC from all the calculators but wasn't sure if i was missing something.

Thanks for your help :)

OP won't be getting the SDP if she doesn't get any benefits other than PIP.

Ah sorry must have missed that. Good luck OP.
