Is this lockdown sufficient

I've noticed over the past couple of days lots more people are out and about. Car use has gone up. At the same time the government are clearly struggling to put in place testing, ppe, ventilators, staff etc quickly enough. I can see this spiralling out of control very easily just now and I don't say that to cause panic. I'm just not getting the impression that we have a handle on this or that the general public truly understands the importance of, or cares, what they've been asked to do.

I think some of the car use clubs be because of payday.

Mrskeats · 01/04/2020 19:28

*could

lanbro · 01/04/2020 19:30

Nope, I'm seeing non essential businesses that had closed reopening. People milling about, generally being idiots. We 'only' have 3 registered deaths in my area tho so I think a lot of people are in denial!

Really frustrating as I've closed 2 businesses, one of which could technically still trade but I dont consider it essential, and i have even moved in with xh for thr sake of the dc and to pool resources

Maybe people are running low on stocks that they got in just as the lockdown was announced, so more happen to need to go shopping or get prescriptions etc at the same time. I know it’s tempting to think that everyone is stupider than you, but often you are just seeing a snapshot of their day. Car use and walking outside are not actually banned.

esjee · 01/04/2020 19:39

@IvinghoeBeacon I live in the town centre, so I see and hear how busy it is throughout the day. The trend is that its been getting busier and if these trips weren't essential a week ago, I can't imagine they are now. Car use and walking probably should be banned because once again we're back to people thinking it's all alright and trips here and there and everywhere are harmless enough. An inch is given (in clarifying the guidelines) and the public takes a mile.

Really? You can’t see how a family with a full fridge last week might need someone to go out this week, and that that could have happened to several households at the same time given that we’ve had just over a week of lockdown?

People have different lives to you, they are going to need different things to you at different times. It must be exhausting keeping tabs on everything like this.

LavenderQuartz · 01/04/2020 19:43

no its not

and look out for friday when i think (judging by whats happening at work) things will relax more!!

i'm not pleased about it but cant exactly say what it is just now!

Roxymoomoo · 01/04/2020 19:48

Note the government say.... slow the spread. Its spreading nice and slow now.
The government dont say stop the spread.
The idea is 60% of us catch it.

esjee · 01/04/2020 19:48

@IvinghoeBeacon wow, you seem annoyed at me pointing out a general trend I've noticed right outside my window! Been making some unnecessary trips yourself, have you? I'll buy some ear plugs so I'm not 'keeping tabs'. It's gone from dead silent outside, to sounding like a normal day. Should I somehow not notice that? Rhetorical question.

Huh? She's right. We all got locked down at same time, lots of people do a weekly shop. Plus, it's payday for a lot of people apparently.

LavenderQuartz · 01/04/2020 19:53

there was another thread this morning.....its payday

people have come out today to spend!

IvinghoeBeacon · 01/04/2020 19:53

Haha bless you, my household is self isolating as I’m due to give birth next week. I just prefer to assume that people are making essential trips unless proven otherwise, rather than thinking they are all much stupider than me Smile

teafourtoo · 01/04/2020 20:00

I was for the lockdown but really don't think it should get any stricter. In my opinion it's really important that people continue to go outside and get fresh air and exercise. Especially kids who are stuck in cramped flats without access to outside space.
I think most people are complying to the rules now.

LavenderQuartz · 01/04/2020 20:14

but you are allowed out for fresh air/exercise already!

Thedogshow · 01/04/2020 20:18

Sexnotgender, I find that SUCH an offensive thing to say. As the mother of a disabled child, who is severely brain damaged and dribbles because the part of the brain that controls the muscles around the mouth is damaged... please don’t be so ignorant to use this as a description of people who fail to adhere to the rules on social distancing.
It’s like using the N word or the word retard. So very ignorant.
Awful.

gingajewel · 01/04/2020 20:36

@LavenderQuartz to do with the semi lockdown we are in now?

teafourtoo · 01/04/2020 21:01

@Lavenderquartz yes exactly so it doesn't need to be made any stricter.

LavenderQuartz · 01/04/2020 21:42

yes. i work for a large chain only currently selling essentials as per the governments directive

this week we are set to be selling non essentials......which will be government approved

so something somewhere will be relaxed

gingajewel · 01/04/2020 22:20

@lavenderquartz thankyou for replying! I wonder if the government are getting ready to release something? I do wonder if some of it is so businesses will survive, not selling non essential things must be having an impact on profit and the financial climate overall.
