C19 and scaremongering

Shehz21 · 01/04/2020 16:37

I fall in the vulnerable category with an autoimmune disorder.

I am starting to wonder about a lot of things and would request people to please enlighten me.
I am suffering from a lot of anxiety atm but some of the threads have helped MASSIVELY.

The only reason my title reads scaremongering is because I have genuine questions about it.
I have a very good friend who keeps posting videos of nurses/doctors(in the uk) about young people dying and the media hiding most of the reality of covid19 i.e it is a deadly virus to anyone and everyone. Now probably due to my anxiety, I live in a sort of denial bubble that it is not as deadly as some are making it out to be and one of the reasons why we keep seeing an increase in deaths is not because of the coronavirus on its own but also due to underlying medical conditions. Or some people could have passed away with covid19 and not due to it.

So firstly I would like to know whether there are any other likeminded people like me out there?

Secondly are the timescales everyone is so convinced of for eg schools starting in Sept somehow accurate or worst case scenarios?

Lastly how long do you think until air travel can be considered safe again?

Please Be Kind.

I'm sorry if my words and thoughts are all over the place as I have just started taking some new medecines and everything is a big thick fog atm.

Havent heard of CV19. But on the news this morning there was a GP answering peoples questions about are there 2 strains of clovid one milder than the other and she basically said if there is two they're as mild/dangerous as each other. No difference in symptoms. It all depends on you own immune system and (if i understand it correctly)(and it's possible i don't!) how much of a big dose of it you were exposed to when you caught it.

Any help?

God knows about air travel and schools. My gut feeling is that they'll relax lockdown as soon as they think they can even if they're not 100% sure.

Mute everyone who is sharing unhelpful things you don't need to read, they aren't doing your mental health any good.

No one can predict the future, so no one can say with any certainty when things will be back to normal.
The best thing you can do for yourself right now is to remember to take your meds, and to start making plans for 'how will I spend my time from now on'.

Make a timetable for how to spend your time, write it all down. Don't be aimless, have a planned activity from when you get up to when you go to bed. Make sure you include the times you need to take any meds.
Include at least one thing that is practical and one thing for self care every day.
Try to have some gentle music playing in the background so you arent alone with racing thoughts.

If you feel like you need to talk, go to Mumsnet Chat or 90 Days and post, there's usually someone about for a chat.

v. good advice.

FaFoutis · 01/04/2020 16:49

I agree with your thinking Shehz. There is a lot of hysteria and it is best avoided.

Shehz21 · 01/04/2020 17:14

Oh wow I'm so so pleasantly surprised at the responses. I don't know why I expected some level of nastiness as I witnessed on other threads.

@Thelnebriati I'm so grateful for your kind advice and will start implementing in RL.

You're very welcome, I'm coming through PTSD and extremely severe generalised anxiety, and I know I'm not the only one on MN.
Doing something practical for your own benefit will make you feel so much better than listening to other people's anxiety kicking off.

I work in primary healthcare and I do advise you to avoid the news. It’s very sensationalist and not helpful to anyone

Shehz21 · 01/04/2020 17:37

Oh that's good to know from someone in the field. Thank youSmile

Hi. I find reading the statistics helpful and avoiding any posts that begin with "I think" or use superlative or exaggerated language. Some people are not good in a crisis and it shows.

When you think about it most of mankind throughout history has had to deal with how we are feeling right now because up until very recent times they had no control over illness or infection. And the world kept turning, life kept on. It will keep on now.

Menora · 01/04/2020 17:43

It isn’t good for anyone’s mental health. There is no point in everyone in the world becoming so anxious and unhappy all at the same time, it isn’t productive it isn’t healthy.

Some of the suggestions here are good - it’s ok to worry and be aware of things but at the same time put them into perspective.

Unfortunately some people seem to be enjoying sharing things that cause worry or anxiety. They seem to think by sharing ‘information’ they are helping others, but in reality they are just sharing more anxiety around.

Don’t believe everything you read either it’s often skewed or flawed in some way. Even statistics can’t be accurate yet as it’s too early

Take things day by day
